Useful Christmas Gift Ideas that Benefit the Whole Family: Vacations and More

Sally Albright
Buying presents for everyone in the family can end up costing you a fortune: another boring tie for dad; a kitchen gadget for mom; toys for the children; and other things that your family doesn't really need. They're all a waste of your hard-earned money. Why not put that money to better use and buy your family one gift that everyone can use and will appreciate? Here are some Christmas gift ideas for your family that are sure to be a hit.

Zoo Membership Giving the gift of a zoo membership is an excellent Christmas gift idea that lasts all year long. Zoo memberships are usually fairly inexpensive. A basic zoo membership for a family in Portland, Oregon, for example, is just $69.00. The membership also carries added benefits such as free admission to 120 other zoos in the United States. This gift membership to the zoo can help your children learn about various animals and can be fun for the whole family.

Family Vacation Rather than spend hundreds of dollars buying presents for everyone in the family, why not spend that money on a family vacation? The destination depends on how much money you have to spend from your Christmas gift budget. A long weekend trip to the beach reserved for the warmer months, a nearby town with attractions for the whole family to enjoy, or even a trip out to see Grandma. This is a great Christmas gift for the whole family allowing everyone to spend some uninterrupted time together.

Amusement Parks Many major amusement parks offer annual passes or even two or three day park passes. These passes may be a bit pricey, but if your family enjoys visiting amusement parks you will be sure to get more than your money's worth. Amusement parks usually have rides and attractions that are suitable for the youngest and oldest of guests, meaning each member of the family can enjoy this type of Christmas gift.

Movie Theater Gift Certificates You can purchase gift certificates for the movies through Fandango.com. You can buy gift certificates that are valued from $10 to $100. If your family loves to go to the movies then this gift can be quite practical. A trip to the movies can easily cost a family of four at least $50 per movie, with popcorn and drinks. You can save your family money from your regular budget by purchasing movie theater gift certificates using the money from your Christmas gift budget which may have otherwise been wasted on useless gifts.

Games Gift Basket Sometimes all a family needs to have fun it to play games together. Many board and other types of games go on sale during the Christmas season making them inexpensive to purchase. You can buy different games that are appropriate for the whole family to play together, depending on the age of your children. For the younger group games like Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders are classics. Older children and teens may like games such as Pictionary, Clue, or Monopoly. You can also get games for just the children to play together and games for the adults to play together after the children are in bed. Purchasing a variety of games for your Gift Basket means that everyone in the family is sure to find a game in the basket that they like. It also keeps your family from becoming bored by playing the same games over and over again.

Buy purchasing a gift, or gifts, for your family using the above suggestions you can save yourself wasted money and valuable time otherwise spent shopping in crowded stores. The best part of these gifts however is the fact that they require the family to interact with one another through various fun activities, a Christmas gift that is hard to beat.

So true. Our kids always wanted passes to Busch Gardens for Christmas because they could enjoy them from March through October. When I was little, I absolutely loved my zoo pass.
