Useful Hints, Tidbits and Ways to Recycle .........

Craft.....

Use a 2 liter bottle to hold a scan of yarn. Cut bottom off ¾ of the way, insert scan of yarn making sure strand of yarn is coming out the top and tape bottle bottom back on.

Keep your craft or x-acto knife poked in a cork for protection.

Use old medicine bottles for all your tiny stuff.

Keep your ribbon that is on a spool, on a wooden dowel.

Use left over bits of felt on the bottom of your vases and knick-knacks.

Food.....

Save the liquid from canned fruit and make ice cubes. Good to throw in when you are making a smoothie or to add some flavor in a glass of water.

Make a large batch of meatballs, uncooked put them in Styrofoam egg cartons. Make sure you wash the carton thoroughly before using. When needed, take desired amount and cook as usual.

Use some cooking spray on cheese grater to prevent sticking.

To soften hard brown sugar, add a piece of bread.

To thicken soup or stew use some instant potato flakes.

Peel garlic cloves, buy putting in the microwave 10 - 15 seconds, skins will slip right off.

To make pancakes with ease, use a meat baster to put onto pan.

Garden.....

To kill weeds spray with white vinegar.

For better grip and no blisters use fingers from old rubber gloves on garden tool handles.

Use an old Kleenex box with top cut off for a seed pack organizer.

Put onion juice in the ground when planting bulbs to keep rodents away.

Use cardboard egg cartons to use as seed starters.

Empty the water from hard boiled eggs into your garden for minerals.

Use old mini blinds cut up for plant markers.

Use your shredded paper for mulch in the garden.

Household.....

To prevent drawers from sticking, rub them with paraffin.

Store all your plastic bags in an old Kleenex box.

To make candles last longer, put in freezer for a few hours before using.

To fill in a nail hole fill with tooth paste.

To remove rust use lemon juice and salt.

Keep batteries in the refrigerator for longer life.

Use a spring action clothes pin to hold a nail that needs to be hammered in.

Put scented oil on a cotton ball and put in your vacuum cleaner bag, to scent the house.

Use a piece of bread to pick up little pieces of broken glass.

To keep clothes on a hanger, put a rubber band around each end.

Remove pet hair from furniture by using a rubber glove sprayed with water.

Clean a cloudy vase by putting in a denture cleaning tablet in water and soak overnight.

Laundry.....

For ring around the collar take a bar of ivory soap, rub well on ring and launder as usual.

Colgate toothpaste will remove a lot of stains from clothing.

To freshen laundry, add a ½ cup of baking soda to the load.

Remove blood stains with hydrogen peroxide.

For grass stains rub with karo syrup.

To remove perspiration stains, put soap and water on stain and set out in sun to bleach out. Launder as usual.

Keep a plastic bag by your dryer for lint, in spring put the lint outside for the birds.

Misc.....

Store pantyhose in toilet paper rolls.

Keep a pair of latex or exam gloves in your pantyhose drawer. Use them when putting on pantyhose and no more snags.

For a stuck zipper try rubbing a pencil along the zipper or some paraffin.

To get a ring off your finger that is stuck, spray with window cleaner.

To get a splinter out, put a piece of scotch tape over splinter and pull off.

To get gum out of hair use peanut butter.

    I love the cooking spray on the grater tip. It is so hard to clean. I ran out of cleaner for the tub and used baking soda and moistened a rag with vinegar and the tub came out cleaner than using all the chemicals.

    Fantastic! Especially the vinegar for weeds. I am chemically sensitive & cannot use pesticides. Also Vinegar added to rinse water for your wash. Clothers come out soft, and without soap residue! And no they will not smell like vinegar once clothes are dry. They will just smell clean.
