Useful Information About Web Hosting Services on the Internet
Important Web Hosting Information You May Need to Know and Remember
You must take the time and decide carefully what type of Web site you desire on the internet and the kind of hosting you are looking forward to receive. This will help to eliminate simple and costly mistakes. Someone, for example, who only desires to have a Blog to express his or her personal views with friends, may want to choose a free hosting with professional services from, for example, Word Press or Blogger. However, if a person is serious about starting a part-time business, such as an online store, to sell products or services and earn extra income, then professional business hosting will be better or more suitable.
There are different types of hosting services. Basically there are Shared hosting, c-Panel, Reseller, Master Reseller hosting, Virtual Private Server (VPS) Dedicated Server hosting and others. You can access details at webopedia.com or from your personal search on the internet. But before you decide to choose, you will need a domain name.
After you have carefully thought about and decided on the kind of Web site and hosting service you may need, you must select a domain name. This is basically what the name of you Web site will be on the internet and when someone accesses you Web site using their browser. For example, Associated Content domain name is associatedcontent.com and my personal domain name is michaeltaylorsite.info - so anyone can find and reach our sites on the internet. An essential point here has to do with whether or not you domain name and Web site hosting will be done at the same place.
Some hosting companies will do both. However, if you decide to change hosting providers because of poor service, for example, you may have problems moving your domain name with you hosting. This is why so many people may prefer to have their domain name hosted one place and their Web site at another. That way, they can have full and better control over their Web site identity and management on the internet. This also facilitates flexibility. There are some benefits if both are hosted one place, such as the potential discounts and technical support for both. However, every time something goes wrong and you decide to leave a hosting service, moving your domain may be a problem.
Hosting costs and supply are very critical. Some companies will charge a lot of money for very little service. For example, if you are offered to pay US$25 monthly for only 25 GB of web space and 500 GB of bandwidth, while another company is offering the same for only US$15 monthly or even unlimited web space and bandwidth for US$20 monthly, then you may not want to take that offer. Web Space basically refers to the amount of space for files, pictures, music, and so on allowed each month. Bandwidth refers to the amount of time you Web site can be accessed each month on the internet. The greater both are for less, the better for you, although there are other services, such as e-mail, Web site builders for free, all day support, acceptable billing and secure payment processes and money-back guarantee if you do not like a hosting service within, for example, 30 days. In such a case, you can claim a refund and move you Web site hosting.
Two of the most important concerns are secure online transaction facilities and acceptable customer service.
I strongly believe it is very essential when dealing with sensitive information online (such as your United States Social Security Number, credit or debit card number and password, bank account number, and others) to make sure the Web site is a secure site. This basically means that, usually at the top of the particular browser you are using, you will see that the site address begins with https and has a secure padlock looking image at the start or end of the web address on the browser. In addition, when you use your computer mouse device and place it over that padlock image, you can see information from the browser that will indicate to you that the site is a secure site. If you click on the device, you will see details about the extent of the secure Web site. The above is in reference to SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and is a security technology for an encrypted link between a web host server and your browser. So the essential purpose is to make sure all sensitive data or information that are passed between the above are secure from theft, fraud or abuse.
Customer service is at the heart of every hosting service. After you have paid for the service and have your Web site content ready to be seen by specific people or the internet public, the quality of after-sale service is very critical to your survival on the internet. Some companies will gladly receive the initial monthly payment or the 3-6 months payments, but will offer the most disrespectful and inefficient customer service. That is why it is always good to seek and accept reference or advice from others about a particular site and service. In addition, it helps to do some personal internet investigations to see if there are any reports about a hosting company service and what those are. It just does not make sense you have a small business site that will generate US$500 or more each day, for example, and you cannot receive the customer service support from your host that will make you business successful.
Within the contest of customer service, the efficiency and reliability of the hosting company Server that powers your business or personal Web site is very important. Some companies offer very poor Server up-time service and are off-line or down for service too often. When this occurs, you will just lose friends and customers who cannot be bothered with inefficient Web sites that they will interpret as suspicious or just wasting their time. Again, advice from friends, professional and some personal investigation before accepting and staying with a host is critical.
Then there is the issue of spam, viruses, Trojans and other unwanted destructive internet agents that may be coming from some Web hosting Companies Servers. For example, I recently discovered from a friend that after he signed-up for a hosting service with a particular company, he discovered that his computer started to be burdened with a lot of those unwanted Trojans and so on. At the time he was experiencing this, he did not know it was coming from the hosting company Servers. Because of other reasons, he had to stop using that company and canceled his service. After that, he noticed that the Trojan problem just stopped attacking his computer. It was then that he realized that the problem was coming from that hosting company Servers. He then told a friend who was experiencing the same problem with the same hosting company. She also canceled her hosting with them and her Trojan and virus problems then stopped.
The point is, sometimes the problems you may be experiencing with virus and Trojans, for examples, may just be coming from the hosting company that hosts your Web site. Some companies are efficient and professional to offer virus, spam and other protection with their services, while others may do so only for the most expensive service. So when selecting a hosting service, it is important to make sure you receive the server protecting you deserve. Also make sure your own personal computer, laptop or mobile device is protected from viruses and other unwanted agents.
In ending, there are many important issues to be considered when deciding to accept the services of a Web hosting company. Cost will matter to everyone but so should customer service and security on the internet. It is always a good decision to ask friends about their opinions and professional views when considering a Web host. Doing some personal investigation will help a lot to ensure that you do not make a mistake or experience unwanted poor service. Some reviews and reports may be bias but not all and will become useful when doing you comparison and making a final decision. By all means, never use a Web hosting service that does not offer a SSL secure transaction service to protect your personal data and information.
