Your first step should be sitting down with a calendar and writing down all of your obligations. The calendar does not have to be expensive or fancy; at this point, you simply need to see exactly where all of your obligations are. You should include obligations for your children as well, if you have to take them yourself, provide transportation, supervision or other similar tasks. Anytime that you are not free needs to be documented with the place, duration and task involved. This will help you to see exactly what your obligations are, and how much time if any you have left over for yourself, or even sleeping.
Now that you have a specific list of your responsibilities, it is possible to start taking the time to really review what is expected of you on a normal basis and how you actually feel. For example, if you are always continuously stressed out on the weekends then you might find that it is a good idea to start cutting back on the weekend activities after you notice how much time you are spending on different activities. Of course, there are some things that just cannot be cut typically such as going to work and spending time with your family but you might be able to cut back on time at the gym, taking the kids to an excessive amount of extracurricular activities and other similar tasks.
Look at ways you can streamline your activities. If you can pay bills while the kids are in class, this can allow you to get things moving much quicker with only a small amount of effort. Taking some steps to combine tasks will allow you to open up more time in your schedule for yourself, as well as ensure that you are not spreading yourself too thin. As busy as your life might be, there are ways to organize yourself much better, but your first step to getting started is knowing what is even in store for you.
