Useful Tips to Fix a Dead Pixel

The popularity of the LCD monitors lies in their ability to produce high definition pictures and the space saving design, which does not have the bulk or lead found in a CRT monitor. But these LCD monitors have some faults like the occurrence of the 'dead pixel'. This is the formation of a black spot on the screen and the color may vary in the stuck pixel like, green, red or even blue other than the usual black spot.

There is a slight variation between a stuck pixel and a dead one. While a stuck pixel can be fixed easily, a dead pixel is not that easily corrected as it may be due to defect in the hardware. Whatever the defect is, you will be able to select the appropriate measure when you start the repairing process. Here are some useful tips to follow.

1. Switching the power off, is the first thing to do to fix a dead pixel, whether it is a laptop or a desktop that you are using.

2. Apply firm and gentle pressure on the dead pixel area using an eraser tip or your finger. You can use a damp cloth to do this in case the screen gets scratched or smudged and avoid giving excessive pressure. The screen should be safely secured while doing this.

3. Switch the power on.

4. On the spot of the dead pixel, try rubbing gently till the color changes. This can take a long time to correct and you may have to repeat this many times in a span of 1 hour. Gentle tapping on the area is another way to make the dead pixel fade away. Do this with a black background for better effect. Whatever method you employ be careful to avoid any undue pressure to the screen.

5. Once the pixel is corrected, you can check with the help of a white background, the proper color that has been repaired.

6. Color flashing programs are available for free and can be downloaded. These are designed to stimulate the dead pixel and the ones that are situated around the dead pixel. For example a small flashing square is present in one of the color flashing program and it can be dragged and placed over the pixel to correct it.

7. A color flashing program used for half an hour is sufficient enough to fix a dead pixel or a stuck one. But if it does not work then you may have to run the full screen type which takes as long as half a day or around 12 hours to complete the fixing process.

You have to keep in mind that all these tips do not necessarily work effectively and you may need to send it to the manufacturer for repair. Though you may have a warranty, it may not cover the work needed to fix a dead pixel. If your monitor is large enough to make the dead pixel appear insignificant then you need not get concerned about it. To prevent occurrence of a dead pixel ensure that you get a branded LCD monitor like HP, Sony, and Samsung for better performance.
