Uses for Bobby Pins

Bobby pins are one of those hair items that seem to be on the way out. Very seldom do these little hair accessories get used on a daily basis. If they are used, it is usually for a special event like prom, a wedding or some other time when an updo is the style of choice. But I feel that I am not the only one who still has them taking up space in my bathroom cabinet, right along with the hair roller that I no longer use. So do I throw them out or find another use for them? After looking in several places such as the internet and in several books I have come across a few things that can be done using bobby clips for uses other than to hold a piece of hair in place.

There are several places that bobby pins can be used in relation to someone's clothes. A broken zipper pull can be replaced with a bobby pin. This may only be a temporary fix, but it will work if you can not get the zipper up or down. Temporary cufflinks can also be created using bobby pins. Simply open the bobby pin up and slide one end through both cufflink holes. Then finish up by twisting the two ends together or bend the ends to hold them in place. A tie clip can also be made using a bobby pin, and it will not be seen. To do this, simply clip the back apron of the necktie to your shirt using a bobby pin. The front apron will cover up the bobby pin as it holds the tie in place. One last fashion statement that can be made using bobby pins is a necklace. Put colored beads on the bobby pin then run a piece of pretty ribbon through the end of the bobby pin. Tie knots in the ribbon between the decorated bobby pins. While these suggestions may not be fashion statements as such they will work in a pinch and may provide entertainment in the process.

Bobby pins can be used around the home as well. Keep wires in place along a baseboard by carefully clipping the rubber ends off of the bobby pin, sliding the bobby pin onto the wire and sliding the bobby pin into the cracks of the baseboard. Christmas tree ornament hangers can be made from bobby pins by opening the bobby pin up and placing the ornament loop into the closed end of the bobby pin, then simply clip the bobby pin with the ornament, onto the Christmas tree. Bobby pins can take the place of a paper clip. To do this simply place the papers between the ends of the bobby pin. Finally, are you tired of smashing your fingers when hammering a nail? Use a bobby pin to hold the nail. Need a book mark so you will know where you are when reading? Use a bobby pin.

These are just a few of the uses for bobby pins. Most of them are just temporary fixes, but sometimes that is just what a person needs. So next time you are thinking about throwing your bobby pins out, just remember, you may need them one of these days.
