Uses for Dental Floss

Deborah Anderson
Dental floss, as most folks know, is a thread that is either waxed or unwaxed, and is used to remove plaque and food from between teeth. But is this the only use for dental floss? Is removing food from between the teeth the only use that someone has for dental floss? No, it is not the only use for dental floss. There are many more uses that have been discovered throughout the years and I am sure that there will be plenty more uses discovered years to come.

Dental floss is stronger than regular thread and is often used to replace thread in situations where the thread has given up, such as umbrellas. Umbrellas that have had their thread come loose can be repaired with dental floss and can be used for many more rainy days. Broken jewelry can also be repaired with dental floss for much the same reasons. Dental floss can be used to restring pearls and other jewelry when the string that they were originally placed on has broken. Moccasins are another item that can be repaired using dental floss when the thread in them has broken.

Poultry or a roast can be tied up to be roasted with unwaxed dental floss. Simply wrap gather up the meat to be cooked and wrap the unwaxed dental floss around it. Cook the wrapped up meat as the recipe calls for. Be sure to cut the unwaxed dental floss before serving or eating the meat.

Have you ever spent time baking the perfect cake only to find that you do not have a cake knife to cut it with? If you have dental floss, you can cut the cake with it. Gather the dental floss in each hand and carefully lay it across the cake where you wish to cut it then push the dental floss through the cake.

Do you have a picture that needs to be hung on the wall? If the picture is lightweight, then you can use dental floss to hang it up with. When hung on a white wall, the dental floss is nearly invisible.

Did the thread on your moccasin just break? Using dental floss is an easy fix, just use a larger needle and use the dental floss as you would thread and sew it up. A felt tip marker can change the color of the dental floss to more closely resemble the color of the remaining thread.

Have you ever began decorating your Christmas and found out in the middle of the chore that you are short on hangers for the ornaments? We have all been there at one time or another. Dental floss can be used by simply threading the dental floss through the ornament holder, leaving a pretty good length of the dental floss and tying it off. Now just put the ornament on the tree by threading a limb of the tree through the loop made by the dental floss.
