Uses for an Old Ladder

What can you do an old ladder? Some people may just throw them away, but what if you would like to use it for something new? Luckily for you there are several new uses for old ladders such as a planting guide, a sawhorse, a utensil holder, a loading ramp, a trellis, scaffolding or even a clothes rack.

To create a planting guide using an old ladder, take the ladder to the gardening area and lay it down flat on it's side, on the soil where you are wanting to create rows. Press the ladder down into the soil then pick it up. Now you have a straight line to use in your garden. Simply repeat the process to finish creating the rows necessary for planting the garden. You could also lay the ladder down flat and create an outline for squares if you needed them in your garden.

If you are in need of a simple sawhorse, just take the unused ladder and lay it on its side opened. Now you have an instant sawhorse although it may be a little on the short side.

To create a utensil holder, or pot rack, for a kitchen you will first need to determine the size of the pot rack you want. After making a decision on the size, cut the old ladder to fit the dimensions of the pot rack. Now you can use ropes to hang the ladder section from the ceiling in the kitchen and add the pots and pans to it.

Trellises are another project that can be created from an old ladder. An old ladder that has round rungs works best for this project and you will need three ladders or sections of ladders, depending on the size of the trellis you wish to build. You will only need on side of the ladder, so take it apart. Place two sections or two pieces of the ladders the desired width of the trellis onto the ground in the area where you wish it to be and anchor it in place. Add the third piece to the top of the trellis.

Scaffolding can be made by taking two ladders and a piece of plank and putting them together. To do this decide on the width you need and the height you need, then place the two ladders the desired distance. Now you can place the plank between the two rungs on the ladders that will give you the desired height.
