Uses for Old Magazines

Deborah Anderson
Old magazines seem to be something that most people have plenty of, usually just laying around the house. I will admit, I am one of these people. I suspect the reasons for keeping them vary from person to person or even from day to day. My reason always begins with there may be something in them that I will want to do at a later date. Unfortunately the later date never arrives and the magazines just keep on laying there. So what can actually be done with these magazines since it looks like the original reason for keeping them is not working out so well?

Well a stadium cushion could be made out of them. That would serve at least two purposes, maybe even three. First of all you could use as many magazines as you wanted or at least as many as it takes to make the cushion so you are decreasing your pile of old magazines. If anyone has ever had the pleasure of sitting for several hours on a cold hard stadium seat then they will understand the need for something between their behind and the metal seat leading to the second and third purposes of this particular use. This would be to make the seat somewhat softer and warmer. All good reasons to take a pile of magazines that are the same size and put them into a heavy duty bag and carry them with you to the ballgame.

Do you find yourself needing a funnel? Well luckily for you there are old magazines laying around waiting to be used. Look for the largest magazine if you need a large funnel then roll it into a cone shape by beginning on one corner of the magazine. After the cone is created, tape the magazine funnel in place. Of course, when using this funnel it would be best if the stuff you are pouring is dry. I do not think that a magazine funnel with tape would work very well for liquid ingredients.

Looking for another way to use old magazines? You can make boot trees out of them. Simply take several of the old magazines and roll them up. Use enough to fill the inside of the top of the boot that they will be placed in and put them in the boot. This will help the boots keep their shape.

Old magazines do not have to be thrown into the dumpster or on the burn pile. They can be just the thing for other uses. I am sure that there are more, so add your uses if you want to.
