Using Always Maxi (Long) Pads with Flexi-Wings for Heavy Periods

Sable Woods
Since I had my first period at the tender age of 11, I've always been cautious about using tampons, afraid that I'll experience too much leakage and have a noticeable bloody stain on the back of my pants. Therefore, I've chosen to use menstrual pads as my method of protection during my periods, specifically Always Maxi Pads. Nowadays, I get the long/super pads with flexi-wings, because I like the wings for extra panty coverage and I like having the extra protection on the 2nd and 3rd day of my 5-day periods when my blood flow is very heavy.

Always Maxi Pads uses dry weave protection, which is a cotton net that's placed on top of the cotton inside the pad. The dry weave helps women feel dry by holding the liquid inside the pad so that it doesn't stick to the skin. One dry weave pad will lock in the fluid for hours.

These pads are easy to apply to the inside of your underwear. You just open the pad up to strip the tape off the back of the pad, press it against the inside of your panties, then strip the tape off the wings to press the sticky side on the outside of your panties under the back of the pad.

I've noticed that after wearing Always Maxi Pads for 4 or 5 days, they begin to irritate the skin a little on the vulva. You might get a little itchy down there because of that. And if you wear feminine pads to bed and like to sleep on your stomach or back, you may also find that it doesn't catch all the leakage as you sleep, despite it being a longer pad. I'd use the Always Maxi Pads labeled "overnight" when going to bed instead.

Also, due to the bulk of these pads, if you wear one for long you may find the part of the pad bunched up (usually in the back). In addition, since the wings are wider on Always than on other brand-name pads, you'll also likely experience the wings sticking together on the outside of your panties, making it a little harder to take the pad off and replace it with a new one.

You can get Always Maxi Long Pads with Flexi-Wings at retail chains and grocery stores in the feminine needs aisle. For about 16 pads, expect to pay approximately $4-6 dollars. With my 16+ years of experience with pads, I like and would recommend any woman who experiences heavy periods who wants to use pads instead of tampons to try Always Maxi Long Pads with Flexi-Wings.
