Using Baking Soda Around the House

The commonly used baking soda can have many uses other than just baking cookies. That's right take the baking soda from your cupboard and use them for baking, cleaning and deodorizing your rooms, mattress and other household appliances.

Let's step away from the kitchen and step into the bathroom. You can go from baking cookies to brushing your teeth with baking soda. If you have run out of baking soda than try brushing with baking soda. Your teeth will appear whiter than with normal toothpaste. Just take care not to do this very often since baking soda tends to be abrasive.

Next you could use baking soda on your hair once a month to remove hair product build up. This will take that dull looking hair and living it up. Just make a pasty baking soda and water mixture and rub into your hair. Let the baking soda mixture in your hair for about 2 minutes than wash your hair as normal. You can use this mixture more than once a month if you tend to have more build up.

You can clean your sink and tub out by mixing 1/4 cup of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of liquid detergent. Then add white distilled vinegar. You will add enough of the vinegar to make a creamy texture. This mixture can be used as a scouring paste.

Baking soda can also be used as a deodorizer. You can deodorize your drains by pouring 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of hot distilled vinegar down them. After 5 minutes run hot water down the drain and you will have fresh smelling drains. This can also be used in garbage disposals, just follow the directions for the drains.

Freshen the air in your rooms by spraying a solution mixture of 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of white distilled vinegar and a cup of water. This will freshen the air in your room especially the bathrooms.

Use white distilled vinegar and water to clean urine off a mattress. After cleaning the mattress with the vinegar solution dust some baking soda onto it and let dry. Vacuum the baking soda off your mattress and your mattress will be deodorized along with the insides of the vacuum.

Lastly, remove carpet stains with 2 tablespoons of white distilled vinegar and ¼ cup of baking soda. Rub the mixture on to the carpet stain and let it dry. Vacuum up the residue once the area has dried up.

Baking soda is very inexpensive and can be used in several different ways, try some out and see if you like them.
