Using Candles for Home Decorating

Cassie Mae
I love candles. I have areas of candle decorating throughout my house. There are so many pretty candle stick holders and glass holders for candles to choose from. You can create your own candle decoration with the large selection Wal-Mart, Kohls, and other stores have.

Buy candles that you like now:
I found a green candle holder on clearance at a souvenir shop at Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Being that it was on clearance I got the last one for $7.50. I loved the green shapes and the black metal.

Last week I found an abstract piece of art on art.com. The candle and art piece were made for each other! I have them displayed on top of my refrigerator.

Buy candles now that catch your eye. You can save them in your storage area until you find the perfect place for them in your house.

Candelabra:
My next favorite candle decorating idea is our candelabra. I put a beautiful wooden table I got at an estate sale behind our couch. I put a few decorations on the table. We have a burgundy wall and tan wall that connect. I put burgundy candle sticks in the candelabra to bring out the burgundy wall.

If your candles do not fit take some clay or Play-Doh and put your candle sticks in the candelabra. The clay or Play-Doh will harden and hold your candle sticks up nice and straight.

Rice Glass and Candles:
In our bathroom I bought a glass at Wal-Mart for $1.97. I bought some white rice from Wal-Mart in bulk so I could make this as Christmas decorations for my family and friends. Find the color of candle sticks you want to match the room you will be putting the candles in. Our bathroom is lavender so I bought four white candle sticks. I may change the candle sticks in the autumn to lavender.

Instead of using rice, you may use stones, shells, or white sand. Whatever fit's the theme you are decorating with.

I got this idea from the book "Dime Store Decorating Using Flea Market Finds With Style" by Jill Williams Grover. Check your local library for this fascinating decorating idea book.

Where to find inexpensive candles:
The most inexpensive place I have found candle sticks is Wal-Mart. The cost per candle stick is .79 cents. Other stores I have seen them as high as $2.79 a piece. Not a very savvy shopping deal at that price.

Candle lamp shades:
Home Interiors offers ceramic and hand painted tin lamp shades for candles. They come in a variety of patterns. They really dress up a candle. The cost is $12.99 for the ceramic or hand painted tin lamp shade. You can buy different sized candles and priced candles that Home Interiors offers to fit your ceramic or hand painted tin lampshade.

I have one of my candles with a ceramic lampshade displayed on our hutch. Another displayed on our modern lamp shelf with glass rocks that I bought at Wal-Mart to match the color theme of our living room. And the third mosaic pattern lampshade on our bathroom counter.
