Using Coffee Grinds in Your Skin Care Routine

Rebecca Furtado
When you make your morning cup of Joe you may want to save the grind. There have been studies done that show caffeine a main natural ingredient in coffee may have some beneficial beauty effects. In the end most of these conclusions are antidotal but those who practice cupboard beauty routines from their kitchens have had some good results with coffee and coffee grinds as a helpful beauty ingredient.

Studies in the late 90's gave the impression that caffeine containing creams helped reduce cellulite. Follow up studies were pretty inclusive about the actual effect of caffeine on cellulite and skin dimpling ,but women who use caffeine based creams seemed pretty satisfied personally with the outcomes.

You can try this yourself at home. If anything it works as a great body scrub. Take warm coffee grounds and minute it with your favorite body location. I would use a vitamin lotion to reduce the appearance of tough skin that usually comes with cellulite. Put some newspaper on the bathroom floor and get some plastic wrap. Put on your bathing suit if you don't want to stand there in your birthday suit and apply the mixture to your cellulite spots. Wrap the areas you applied the grind mixture to and stand there 15 minutes. Maybe you can deep condition your hair at the same time and give yourself a self made spa day. Remove the wrap and then take a shower with a loafer to make sure you get the stuff off. If you work the grinds into your skin with you apply it you also get the benefit of exfoliation. Follow up with a moisturizer because coffee grinds tend to draw moisture out of the skin.

Again if you have sensitive skin or are inclined to allergic reactions you may not be able to use this coffee scrub at all. I add ground cinnamon to the mixture because it supposedly helps oxygenate your skin. The nice side effect from the cinnamon I do get is it seems to help the coffee dry out my normally excessively oily skin. I follow up with an oil free lotion because I need the drying effect.

You can also add some grinds to your eye cream to reduce puffiness . Do not work the grinds in your thcream or get them in your eyes. The capillaries under you eyes break easily and you will end up with discoloration under your eye. I would not advise sleeping with coffee grounds on your eyes. You could accidentally rub them in. Put the eye cream coffee cream minute on for thirty minutes while you are waiting for your nail polish to dry You are applying it under you eyes so you should be able to leave it on and keep your eyes open Again ,if you are sensitive to different substances on your skin do not try this. Stick to cucumbers ; as they will unlikely give you puffy hives under your eyes.

My best before your date scrub is a teaspoon of cinnamon, tablespoon of coffee grinds, and a table spoon of soy oil based salad dressing . This stuff does not mix well but apply it to your face after you have mixed it the best you can. Leave it on about 15 minutes working it gently into your skin. Do routine this a few hours before your date of you will be red faced for a little while after you use this mixture. I throw some in my hair because it really shines it up . Rinse of the minute with warm water and you will be amazed how refreshed your skin looks.

There are some people who thing coffee grinds can help folks with Rosacea because caffeine helps restrict blood vessels in the skin making it appear less red's would consult your dermatologist first to find out if using coffee grinds can really be helpful or not. Certainly rubbing the grinds into your already red skin would not be a good idea , but if you can gently apply the grinds and then gently remove them it might be worth a try.

Use fresh coffee grinds as ones that sit wet might harbor bacteria or other unwanted things. Make sure you use grinds from caffeinated coffee as all of the benefits to using grinds as a beauty aid seem to be related to coffee containing caffeine.
