Before writing about one of the Editing 101-Commas http://styleguide.yahoo.com/editing/punctuate-proficiently/commas. I want to give you a little insight about me, my writing and my lack of grammar knowledge. This was in the past. I learned this simple rule regarding the use of FANBOYS.

I had been writing for most of the seventy years of my life. I began writing poetry as a child, and as I aged, my poetry became prose. In my teens, I started writing stories about my childhood. Eventually I began writing articles and stories about life as I knew it. Here I am now, a freelance author and contributing editor for Seniors and Dating & Relationships. I wrote stories about my life as a child and through the years. I have experienced life, both the good and the bad. These memories allow me to share past experiences, to help others, through my article writing on the Internet.

I love writing. Expressing my thoughts and feelings for others to read, was a major goal in my life, My only concern was I had forgotten how to use correct grammar while writing articles. It seemed to read correctly when I submitted each article. However, the site editors thought differently, and I had an occasional article rejected.

Writing was my passion. I had to learn how to write using correct grammar. There was no two-ways about it. I started to learn by reading the "Yahoo Style Guide Writing for the Web",- "Editing 101 Commas".

Editing 101-Commas

1. Learn how to use commas by reading the Yahoo Style Guide Writing for the Web," Editing 101 Commas". The primary lesson is about FANBOYS. It teaches the basics of what the word FANBOYS stands for, when to use it, and where to place a comma. it was exactly what I needed. A simplified way of learning how to use correct grammar.

2. Understand that FANBOYS consists of seven letters for seven words. Learn these easy-to-learn lessons and begin using correct grammar in your next article.

F = For; A=And; N=Nor; B=But; O=Or; Y=You; S=So

3. Remember these words. This is the guide to learning how to use correct grammar. How? By writing your article as you usually write it. Then, when you are done, edit the article. Look for any of the FANBOYS words that are in the article.

4. Look for a sentence that contains two complete sentences. Join the sentences together using the correct FANBOYS. It is as simple as that.

For instance. I went to the store. I bought whipped cream.

*These are two separate sentences.

Add one of the FANBOYS and connect the two sentences to make a complete sentence.

I went to the store and I bought whipped cream.

Learn FANBOYS, and you will learn How, When and Where to place a comma in any sentence. In fact, with this lesson, you are on your way to learning how to use correct grammar.

Learning how to use FANBOYS is the start for any write to learn grammar. Remember the words that apply to each letter and you will be writing your next article without grammar errors.

++Note: I had trouble saving this article, so if there are missing sentences or words, blame it on the glitch and not me. I wrote this over about 5 times and each time sentences or paragraphs were missing. I did notify the editors but deadline is today and I am submitting it.

    Super article and great information. I'm a dedicated comma user. I tend to use it where it doesn't belong, simply because I like it. LOL
