Using Coupons the Right Way to Save the Most Money on Your Groceries

Saving money on groceries is easy if you know how to use coupons right. It it does take time and basic organizing skills to set up your system, but once you're set up, it only takes a few minutes once a week to get you're coupons ready for your shopping trip.

The more organized your coupon system is, the easier it is to find the right coupon you need. It should only take a few seconds to find one, or the effectiveness is lost. Set up your coupons so they're easy to locate, either in alphabetical order, or by category.

Get all the weekly sales flyers for your favorite grocery stores, and plan to shop once a week, and hit all the stores you want to go to in one day if possible. Start at the furthest store away, and work your way back home. Some flyers come out on different days, so start creating your shopping list after you get the last one if you'll be going to multiple stores.

In order to save the most money on your groceries by using coupons, you need to concentrate on only the sale items. After cutting your coupons from the Sunday paper insets, magazines, product packages and organizing them, match up each coupon with a sale item if possible. You can save the most money if you find a coupon that goes with a loss leader on on of your weekly sales flyers.

You can also use double coupons if your grocery store has them. They are usually found in the weekly sales flyer, and will usually save you an extra 50 cents to a dollar for each manufacturer's coupon you use. Most grocery stores will also let you use a manufacturer's coupon along with a store coupon as well, so take advantage of that as much as possible too.

You will also save more money if you stock up on your sales items. Buy enough to last you until the next sale on that item, which could be months away. I always just stock up on a really good sale, and purchase as much of the item as i have the extra money for.

I try not to fall into the "I'm buying it because I have a coupon" trap. I only buy items with coupons that I would buy without them.
