Using Credit Card Rewards Can Earn Free or Discounted Vacations
How to Pick Credit Cards Wisely and Combine Rewards
Before attempting to go out and sign up for every available credit card out there, know your credit. This is the first step in trying to sign-up for the right credit cards. Many have credit score limitations. Additionally, it is wise to see how much you can actually afford rather than going out and running up bills. Set a monthly budget and see which expenses can be paid for via credit card. Don't forget to look at revolving bills like cell phones and car insurance which may also take a credit card.
A credit card's rewards are only as good as they are used, so be sure to pick and choose your hotel chain, airlines, and gas credit cards carefully. Determine which method of travel for vacations is preferred and examine accommodations. Earning free vacation travel is as easy as redeeming credit card reward miles, or in some cases free gas or cash back (which can be used for gas) from a gas credit card.
Do you know your favorite hotel's parent company? Look at preferred hotels. Is there a particular chain or brand that is your family's favorite? If so, many advertise promotional offers of 1-3 nights for an initial credit card sign-up. Be sure to combine the hotel credit card rewards' offers with reward points to extend the length of your trip.
Be sure to check for black-out dates, limitations, additional fees and other factors. Pick your travel dates and choose wisely. Points and credit card rewards can help score you a free vacation, but when used during the off-season or for a Sunday-Thursday trip, may help extend your stay. Be sure to investigate the hotel's website for package deals with optional meal plans or scheduled activities to further reduce the cost of your vacation.
Be rewarded in all ways, with the credit card rewards and the reward that comes along with having good credit. Pay your bill off every month. Limit yourself to what you normally spend every month; just put it on the credit card. For example, if having a gas credit card, use that for gas and a hotel one to charge groceries. Credit card rewards do have their ultimate price, usually with high interest rates (and some with annual fees, but don't get them); so always treat your spending as if you were making the transaction in real-time, using cash.
