Take a look at this example. You have a chance to drive a Volkswagen Beetle or a BMW, which would you rather be driving? Well, if you're like me and most other people, the car that you would prefer, if you had the money, would be the BMW and that's because a BMW is such a unique and classy car. No other car in the world comes close to it. It also has an instant association with wealth and status. They even have an impact on class-consciousness. This is the same kind of aura of exclusivity you should create around your products and services to help you market them more.
By explicitly telling everyone about the finest details of your product it makes it feel luxurious and exclusive and special. For instance, as an artist it's not over the top for me to talk about the fine lines and unusual colors I use in a painting or the special process that went in to creating such a unique and one of a kind piece of art. The more you tell people why my painting is special, the more they will believe it and want it.
Detailing everything from the kind of paint used to the strokes used and the colors used in a painting may seem boring, but to people who buy art it's not. People who are into status and image love to hear exactly how this piece is special so they can turn around and tell their friends. And, hopefully, by doing so you can also get more sells from word of mouth.
One other great way to make your products exclusive is to limit them to a certain number of people. Using my art example again, once the original painting is sold, I can have Limited Edition prints of it, which can help to spur sales to people who may have wanted the painting. You have to make sure your customers know that this is a good deal, and only a few people will get to take you up on it. Now, you must make sure that if you promise not to roll it out the same way again, whether it's by the same design or whatever, you have to stick to your promise. It's only an exclusive offer as long as you don't offer the exact same thing to someone else and disappoint your earlier customers. Remember it's the exclusivity of the product that makes it sell.
