Using Fabric in Your Scrapbook

V. L. Hamlin
If you are like many scrap bookers, you also enjoy sewing and other crafts. I'm sure you have plenty of fabric scraps laying around that you just don't know what to do with. Why not integrate your two favorite crafts and use the leftovers for your scrapbooks! You can do virtually anything with fabric that you can with paper, it just takes a more delicate touch.

Add a dress to a torn bear or a person.

Piece together a house, trees, people, anything really.

Add hair bows to people, animals, etc.

"Quilt" a page

Miniature blankets add a nice touch on a bedroom style page

Make an apron to add to a recipe page or a baking layout

Use your punches to make different shapes

Print words on the fabric, then use it to make a vintage style title

Decorate your layout with tiny fabric ribbons and bows

Cutout petals and make fabric flowers

"Design" a wedding dress and tux to add to a wedding page, don't forget the veil!

You can also get rid of that huge box of old clothing in the basement! All those favorite outfits that you just can't seem to get rid of, now have a new purpose! Cut them up and use them in your scrapbooks!

Add a piece of your daughters first Christmas dress to her first Christmas scrapbook layout!

Put your son's baseball jersey in a scrapbook layout by cutting out just the numbers, make a whole page with the numbers from the jersey as the background! (Be sure to back it with cardstock or chipboard.)

Make a miniature version of any clothing item! Just cut a small piece out in the same shape! For example, if your son had a favorite t-shirt he wore constantly and you just can't get rid of it, cut a small piece of it into another t-shirt!

Did your daughter have a favorite doll? Take the dolls clothing off and add them to a scrapbook layout of her and her dolly! Or if it's small enough, add the whole doll!

Keep thinking, get creative and you will be able to come up with thousands of more ways to use fabric in your scrapbooks. Whether it be the leftover scraps from the blanket you made last fall or your daughters first ballet recital costume, you will find a myriad of uses for your fabric once you get started!
