Using Facebook to Manage Your Social Calendar

We live in an age of organization and we also live in an age of online social networking. We connect to other humans in such quick and creative ways now: cell phones, email, online sites and other incredibly tools for instantaneous communication. With so much going on, it can seem like the traditional paper calendar or datebook is antiquated--especially if you are trying to share a social life with someone else. Tools like Facebook can actually be one way to help you manage your social calendar (and involve others in the process.)

There are social calendar applications you can use on Facebook, you just need to search the applications for something that might suit you. You can also utilize a more traditional calendar whether it is paper, datebook or online (such as Google calendar) and use the social networking sites as a way to coordinate activities, send out invitations, gather information and other pieces of developing a social calendar and then record the information elsewhere (especially if you would like a little more privacy or control over your actual calendar or record-keeping.)

Facebook can be a good tool for sending out event invitations, sharing details and information about community events, soliciting interest for activities and connecting with a variety of individuals. If you are going to throw a party, online social networking sites can be a great way of letting people know what's going on and making it very easy for people to comment, RSVP and see who else might be attending. Even if you are just trying to get together a group of friends to see a movie, Facebook can be one way to send out the info without having to make multiple calls and allow people to comment, access the information and organize their own social calendars to synchronize.

One of the assets of something like Facebook, is that you can also have follow-up, post pictures, send "Thank Yous" and other social conventions that make for a well-developed social life. Again, you will want to pay attention to privacy and be considerate of others who might not be comfortable using online social networking and media, but quite a bit can be accomplished in terms of organizing, managing and coordinating one's social calendar using an online social networking tool such as Facebook.
