To begin incorporating the Chinese tradition of Feng Shui, look around your office. Is there clutter laying around that can be moved or even cleared out? Go through the junk piles and sift through what you really need. If there are items laying around that don't get used, move them. Throw away the unnecessary items that are not needed. Your workspace should be clean, organized and open to allow for optimal efficiency. Keep your files well-maintained. Rather than throwing important papers and copies into a folder on your desk or placing in a drawer or pile, organize a filing cabinet. Using filing folders and labels, organize all of the important files you have. Not only will this help remove clutter from the office, you will work easier and quicker with these documents in proper places that are easy to find. Make sure that cords to phones, fax machines, computers, lamps and other equipment are out of sight. Out of sight, out of mind.
Your office environment should be welcoming to invite the positive energy of Feng Shui in. Rather than having old furniture and mismatched office equipment, incorporate nice furniture and matching sets. Energy is supposed to come through you when you sit with your back facing a wall, so arrange desk in a manner that your back is against a wall. You should also face the doorway to welcome business as it comes. Sometimes it is not possible to face the doorway or have your back against a wall. In this case, you should incorporate the use of pictures and mirrors that allow for a better sense of relaxation and peace. In Feng Shui, you should remove any items that bring back bad memories. Photos or memorabilia that reminds you of unhappy times should be taken away from your workspace. Instead, incorporate personal items that make you think happy and relaxing thoughts. Pictures of your children, family members, vacations or other positive times. Because plants are supposed to bring energy and beauty into your environment, you should place a green leafy plant in a red planter or vase in your office. It is recommended that you place this on the left hand side of your desk. Water is said to keep your mind tuned into your dreams and goals. Place a fountain or photo with water sounds in your office to allow positive energy in regarding your desires. Bring as many natural items as possible into your office. Other people will feel more relaxed and comfortable in your workspace and so will you. Incorporate bamboo or wooden baskets, frames, pencil holders and other supplies.
