Using Feng Shui to Paint Your Home

If you're moving into a new home with stark, white walls or are just ready for a home makeover, before you dip your brush in that bucket of paint, you may want to find out some of the feng shui guidelines for colors and how they can bring harmony to your life. There are many bold colors in interior decorating these days but are they the right colors for the room they're in? And what about people who want to be bold - but maybe not that bold? Using the feng shui guide for colors can help you decide on a good palette for your home's interior to boost your prosperity, your health and create harmony in your life. Before selecting a color keep in mind that when it's suggested to paint a room blue that doesn't mean you need a rich primary blue color on your walls. You can select any hue from that color family from deep and dark to almost white depending on your personal style.

Let's start at the very beginning - your front door. Ideally the outside of your front door should be red or purple to invite good luck and positive energy flow through your house. It goes without saying that many houses may not look right with a deep red or purple door. In these cases you can use a peach color or lighter version of purple. Upon entering the home the foyer or entrance walls should be a welcoming yellow. Many home entrances are actually quite dark and have little access to natural light unless the front door is constantly open. If this is the case in your home then a yellow color can make a world of difference. It doesn't have to be a bright 'cartoon-ish' yellow - any cheerful yellow will do.

The living room is an area that can have many meanings and thus the paint color should reflect what you are trying to achieve in life. You can continue the yellow from the entrance into this room to maintain upbeat feelings. If you're someone who is still looking for that perfect person to share your life with a nice peach color will stimulate the heavens to bring you to that new love. Pink walls reflect your current relationship or companionship and stimulate your desire for friends and a healthy social life. The color blue is a very calming color, so if it's your intention to have peaceful conversations amongst friends and family you will want to choose a blue hue for this room. If you would like a few different things to happen in your life you can select one wall color and then decorate with something from the other color palette. You can also use contrast walls in a living room and put a pink color in the relationship area of this room and yellow everywhere else to keep everyone cheerful and happy.

The dining area is one area where you want to make sure you do not use certain colors. Gray and white walls will give those who dine there a sense of stubbornness. If you've got a two-year old who won't eat his broccoli in your white-walled dining room - consider changing the color of the walls. It's possible that he's just a stubborn two-year old but a change of surrounding never hurt anybody! Again, yellow is a good choice to keep everyone happy and it compliments food well. Peach stimulates the appetite, yet still keeps the cheerful feelings of yellow. Green is a good color because it signifies health in food areas since we equate green vegetables with being healthy. Red is a stimulating color that brings luck to the family and gives off a sense of elegance.

The kitchen has been called the heart of the home, as it somehow ends up being the room that everyone congregates in. Yellow continues to be a good choice for it's happy qualities. Yellow in the kitchen can also cause a boost in prosperity. Like in the dining room, green signifies health in the kitchen. Orange stimulates the appetite in the kitchen - which may or may not be a good thing if you're trying to lose weight!

The master bedroom is important to matters concerning loving relationships and marriage and as such should be painted to reflect that. Someone looking for a new love should choose a peach color for their walls. Pink walls stimulates loving feelings amongst couples and white walls strengthen commitment and stability. Children's bedrooms should be painted according to your child's temperament. Yellow walls can create a sense of warmth and optimism but can be too stimulating for some children. Children who tend to be nervous or sensitive will benefit from green colored walls, while children who have a difficult time settling down should be in rooms with blue walls. Bathrooms are high on the water element and too much of a good thing is never a good idea. Combat the water with fire by using red or orange. If those colors are a bit too much you can use softer hues like rose, peach or yellow.

Choosing paint colors can sometimes be stressful for some people. By using feng shui guidelines you cannot go wrong. Remember that it doesn't have to be a true color or something resembling a cartoon - most paint stores have a wide variety in every hue. You'll be sure to find something that suits your taste and style.
