Using Fragrance Layering to Create a Unique Scent for Your Home

Home fragrance is very popular these days, and sales of scented candles, reed diffusers, and the like are on the rise. Just what exactly is fragrance layering? Very simply, fragrance layering is the practice of using two or more scented items in close proximity to create a whole new scent. When you are experimenting with fragrance layering, just make sure that you pick scents within the same fragrance family. There are essentially four basic scent groups: fruit, floral, food, and fresh. So, if your first candle is scented like a red apple, perhaps an orange or pear scented reed diffuser will go will with it. There is one exception to this rule: you can pair food and fruit scents. So if you get an Apple scented candle from Bath & Body works, you could pair it with a Vanilla Cookie electric home fragrancer from Yankee Candle Company.

With fragrance layering, people will walk into your home and wonder what smells so good, and you'll be able to tell them it is a one of a kind scent because it is. Don't be afraid to mix products from different companies, and sometimes you will mix two scents you don't care for individually and come up with a whole new fragrance you do like.
