I recently removed the ugly brown factory pin stripping from my 1999 Passat V6 and it wasn't too hard to complete here is how i did:
what you need:
*a hairdryer or a heat gun
*a bottle of "Goo Gone" or any other decal remover
*clean towel
*plastic scraper
1. park your car away from direct sunlight as it will help to keep the liquid from drying too quickly, you don't want to use more Goo Gone then you need
2. wipe the area you are working with clean and dry completely, dirt will make it more difficult to work with
3. heat the decal up with the hairdryer/heat gun but not to hot, too much heat will make your paint more likely to chip off so be careful!
4. use the scraper and lift up a corner of the decal and pull slowly in a 90 degree angle and heat the next section as you pull
5. any left over glue will be taken off with the Goo Gone, spray the Goo Gone on the area and allow it too sit for about five minutes and wipe off with the clean white towel.
Goo Gone is very useful to have around the house and garage. It will also help to remove bugs and grim off other surfaces.
Have Fun,
Seth
