Using Group Writing Projects to Skyrocket Your Blog Traffic

Joshua Ska
Whether you are new to the blogosphere or an old hat, you can always use more traffic, right? While the tried and true methods of leaving comments on other people's posts and such can grow your traffic, there is another method that people have recently discovered. Group writing projects are an incredibly effective way to boost your number of visitors and get new regulars.

Group writing projects are similar to memes, but you don't have to be tagged in order to participate. One blog will be the host and sets up the rules and gives the topic. The topic can really be just about anything, but the best ones are the open kind where any blog can participate.

All you need to do is write a post, following the guidelines and linking back to the host blog. Then you submit the post to the group writing project and you will be linked to. Each project is different. Some post links to the new entries each day, others prefer to do one long post at the end of the project. Either way, you get a link back to your blog and the post you wrote for the project. This is a very good way to build traffic, but you can boost your page views even more by following a few handy tips.

When choosing a title, make sure it is attention-grabbing. Most group writing projects require you to include a certain phrase in the title, such as "My Best ______" or "Top Five Ways to _______". What you put in the blank is what will make people click on your link. Remember that there will be possibly hundreds of links and you will need your title to really stand out if you want people to visit your blog in particular.

Your post should be entertaining or informative if you want to capture new readers. There's no point in having something that is poorly written, just so you can get into the writing project. Sure, you will get some hits, but no one will come back if they don't like the post. So make it a great one and you will shortly have new RSS subscribers and regular readers.

Choose a project that is relevant to your blogs topic. Don't try to enter a post that has nothing to do with your blog. First, you will confuse your regular readers who may stop coming if they think you are getting too unpredictable, and second, new readers won't stick around because they will realize that this isn't really what you blog about! So look for a project topic that meshes well with your topic or that is open enough to fit any theme.

Group writing projects are an excellent way to boost traffic. One of the big advantages is that it just doesn't matter how old your blog is. Even if you only have three posts, you can enter one of these projects! So, get out there and get started today, building traffic with group writing projects.
