Home Remedies to Treat Burns: Honey
Honey draws out the fluids from the tissues and effectively cleans the wound from the burn. You can apply it directly but that can be messy. You can also apply honey with a gauze pad so it will be less sticky. Take a sterile gauze pad and apply a little bit of honey to it. Apply the gauze pad to the burn to help ease the pain and clean the wound.
Home Remedies for Burns: Oatmeal
If it is a minor burn you have, when it starts to heal it may become itchy. A good way to relieve the itch from a healing burn wound is to crumble some uncooked oatmeal into a lukewarm bath while the tub is filling up. Soak in the oatmeal bath for 15 to 20 minutes and air dry so some of the oatmeal is left on your skin. The oatmeal may make the tub slippery, so be careful getting in and out.
Home Remedies for Burns: Salt
If you eat something hot too fast without letting it cool down first, there is a good chance you will get a mouth burn. Use salt to help treat a mouth burn by mixing ½ teaspoon of salt in about eight ounces of warm water and rinsing with the salt water every hour or so. This will relieve the pain caused by the burn and help heal the wound up faster.
Home Remedies for Burns: Tea Bags
There are three different ways to use tea bags as a home remedy for a burn. The tannic acid in tea helps draw the heat from the burn.
The first way to use tea bags as a home remedy is to take two or three tea bags and hold them under cold water. Collect the tea in a bowl and gently dab the tea on to the burn.
The second home remedy using tea bags for burns is to take three or four tea bags, two cups of fresh mint leaves, and four cups of boiling water and strain the liquid into a jar and allow it to cool. Once the mixture is cooled down enough, dab some on the burn with a cotton ball or a wash cloth.
Another way to use tea bags as a home remedy for burns is to make a poultice. Take two or three wet and cool tea bags and place them on the burn. Wrap them with gauze to hold them in place. You can use this home remedy if you are on the go and you need something to easily and quickly relieve the burn.
Home Remedies for Burns: Vinegar
Vinegar works wonders for burns just like it works for everything else. Vinegar acts as an antiseptic on minor burns and helps prevent infection. Dilute the vinegar with equal parts of water and rinse the burned area with the water and vinegar solution.
Home Remedies for Burns: Ice Cube
Along with salt water, ice cubes are good for treating minor mouth burns. Just suck on an ice cube to help relieve the burn.
Home Remedies for Burns: Milk
Milk can help relieve a burn pretty fast. Soak the burned area in milk for 15 to 20 minutes or apply a cloth soaked in milk to the burned area. Repeat every few hours as necessary to relieve the pain. If you use a wash cloth, make sure to wash the cloth out because it can sour quickly.
By using these home remedies, you can relieve a burn easily and effectively with items from your own kitchen.
