Using Jewelry as a Promotional Tool for Business, Personal Interests or Supported Causes

Nurses Naturally
Jewelry has been around for eons.Primitive tribes adorned themselves with bone, claws, feathers, shells and stone beads. In later times royalty was defined with elaborate accessories containing precious and semi-precious metals and gems.In those times,it was often the men who wore the most jewelry. It might be considered that it was a tool to market their status and success. In our society, jewelry long considered a female adornment has seen a re emerging trend of jewelry for and on men as well as women.American gemologist have considered jewelry for men as the most significant growth focus for design and sales.Jewelry for both men and women could also be a focus for marketing the small business.

From experience as a jewelry designer and maker of jewelry for women, this will be primarily geared toward women in business or wishing to promote a certain personal interest or cause

.A dance team for a High School in Texas for example had a custom necklace made in the colors of the team"The Starlettes" for which glass beads and star beads were incorporated with dangle pewter letters spelling the team name.,earrings and bracelets with the same colors and idea were also available. They were able to purchase new uniforms for the girls who could not afford them with the first round of sales and by the end of the year, for all the participants.Name necklaces were added and sales soared among non team members as well
.
For a corporate MLM which is no longer in business with the product of DVDs called "My Movie Biz"from the parent company Gold Entertainment, two series were developed with the intent as rewards for adding clients and for promotion tools for the business owners. The Gold Entertainment items featured a gold nugget with alphabet beads spelling "Find Gold "accenting the pendant nugget.Another of the same featured a prospecting man and related tools kneeling with "Find Gold".Similar charms related to movies were used with flat or dangle letters saying "My Movie Business" for necklaces, earrings and bracelets. These were considered very effective. They illustrate several points in using jewelry as a marketing tool.

Point one
..You have heard decoraters refer to an item or furnishing to be a "conversation piece "meaning people would notice it and conversation would ensue.Jewelry pieces so designed can be also. Those described above were.Any piece of jewelry that is unusual and/or eye catching may be considered "Conversational Jewelry" .

JEWELRY ITEM SHOULD BE CONVERSATION INSPIRING.Noticeable enough or different enough that the wearer or the other may easily enter into conversation about it or what it represents.
A sample script incorporating this and other points will be given as an example later in this article.
What else is involved?

Point two
Designing the piece or pieces should be as near the brand of the shop, company.the special interest or purpose as possible either directly or indirectly. The special interest or purpose identified. a sports theme, cheer leading, school, hobby or such may be the focus for promotion.A dog breeding, knitting ,sewing, catering, beauty or beading are among the many that may easily developed for business branding. The name may or may not be used.
THE JEWELRY SHOULD BE BRAND OR INTEREST SPECIFIC

Point three
Small creative information cards or fliers should be carried at all times to further illustrate the purpose when promoting or marketing is involved.Even some special interest groups such as book clubs,,dog fanciers, stamp collectors and so on have post cards or fliers made up describing the breed, the type of things they are interested in finding,or their activities and meetings to enlist others with that same interest.
Business people should always have these readily available when in a public contact setting such as in line at the store or bank.If handmade clothes or accessories are the main focus wearing ones creation is a must.and having a small replica or sample along of other handmade items when small scale items may be made is advisable.A 12 foot canvas could not be carried about the supermarket but a picture of it or a small painting could be tucked in the purse, backpack, baby stroller or briefcase.

PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL SHOULD BE READILY AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES. Small sizes are easier to carry and for the other to keep up with.Large page sizes are more likely to be discarded.

Summary and Sample Script
In summary, jewelry can be worn with a direct impact for promoting or marketing your business, special interest or purpose. The three most important considerations are have unusual or eye catching pieces which are as brand specific to the interest, cause or business as possible.Have small informative materials to describe what is being promoted or marketed and how to contact the person or organization.Pass along this information freely in any situation where contact with others is safely feasible

.A sample script for using this for a small business follows:

"Hello.I noticed you were looking at my new(earrings-necklace-bracelet) I love jewelry.Do you?"
answer yes or no....Listen and take cues from what else is said,,,or
"A business associiate, a retired artist made it for me.It represents our business My Movie Biz we rent movies on the internet."
answer.Oh, yes, ummhum or anything except So---So what--Who Cares

"It offers an outstanding opportunity ,if you like movies or want to earn a little extra income.I love it.What do you do?"
or {"Have you ever tried a home business?") Go from there to your usual prospecting or calling script.

if the answer is no so or so what...Smile and say"I really like the business.Sometimes I talk too much about it.Sorry I did not mean to offend you." This requires no response but you may find the person will re-engages you.If not just let it go quieily. If you feel energized or assertive ,offer your card any way, saying
"So I won't say more.If you decide you would like to rent movies on line or make some extra money, here is our site. You can check it out there."Keep smiling and let it go or leave.

A man may say to another man or woman "I have a gift for my wife {Significant Other} here.Do you think she will like it.An artist who is a team member made it it is about our internet business"...showing jewelry.Proceed from there.

Just substitute your own business or interest in the context.

You are very correct, jewelry is a great promotional tool to use in business. Most people however don't ever think about doing this. You have done a marvelous job of laying out ways that people can utilize jewelry to promote their business interests.

It's easy for jewelry to start like this and then take on a mind of it's own. I'm primarily a sculptor but I started making a few pieces of sculpted jewelry to promote my larger sculpture and as less expensive alternatives. The jewelry now takes up a good half of my creative time.

I love jewelry and would like to start making it, if I had any spare time (I'm also afraid my son might eat it LOL!)
