Fibromyalgia is a very difficult disorder where people, (the greater percentage women,) have many types of muscle and bone pains, and just an overall unwellness. A lot of this complex medical disorder is related to the nerves.
Lyrica, (pregabalin,) is a type of medication that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. It is not a drug used in treating depression types, but rather works on the nerves in the body.
Since fibromyalgia is largely related to nerve disorders, Lyrica targeting certain nerves, helps patients to feel better and brings some relief to the pain that is experienced.
No experienced scientist or researcher knows of the reasons why Lyrica works well for many fibromyalgia patients. But experiments that have been conducted in the laboratory demonstrate that the drug has a relaxing effect on cells related to nerves that are hypersensitive.
As a result of Lyrica improving the nerve health of patients, sleeping patterns are much better. People with fibromyalgia are then able to carry out their daily activities and lead a better life.
Lyrica comes in the form of capsules. The medication is taken twice daily and if you miss a dose of this medicine, take your next scheduled dose. You should never double a dose. This medication comes in 25, 50, 75,100, 150, 200, and 300 milligrams. Your dosage strength depends on your illness.
The side effects from Lyrica all hinge upon how much your prescribed dosage is. Side effects can range anywhere from:
1. Vertigo (dizziness)
2. Feeling sleepy
3. Vision disturbance
4. Mouth is very dry
5. Gaining weight
6. Swollen extreme ties
7. Possible suicidal thoughts
This drug has also been known to make it difficult for a person to be aware of what is going on around them. Therefore, when operating a car or any other piece of machinery, you should be cautious.
Lyrica can cause allergic reactions, but this side effect is not very common. If you are having, (1) trouble breathing, (2)hives, or (3) swelling in any part of the face, stop taking this medicine and get to an emergency room right away.
It is always important for your prescribing doctor to know of all medications you are taking since some of your medicines may react badly with Lyrica.
