Using Name Tags to Enhance Your Club or Organization

Does your club or organization provide name tags to its members? If it doesn't, consider the following reasons why name tags can enhance the experience for every member of your group.

Be more welcoming to potential members. Imagine a new recruit entering the meeting room for the first time and encountering a sea of unfamiliar faces. Wouldn't it be easier to strike up a conversation if you could immediately attach a name to each of those faces? Now you could certainly do the job with "Hello My Name Is" stickers and a black marker, but this probably isn't the image you'd like to project. It was certainly fine in high school, but shouldn't an organization of professionals look more, well, professional? A classy name tag perfectly fits the bill.

Provide a tangible sign of membership. While benefits like networking and professional development certainly draw members to an organization, sometimes they want something they can hold in their hands. New members can look forward to receiving their name tags as a sign of initiation. Older members can feel appreciated and recognized.

Add prestige to elected positions. Being the president or secretary of an organization can be a thankless job. However, the right name tag can give officers and committee members a boost while also helping members recognize their elected officials.

Aid in recruitment and marketing efforts. Wearing your name tag outside of club meetings can be a great tool for spreading the word about the work your group does. Whether you're at a chamber of commerce mixer or a professional conference, it will draw attention and invite questions about the featured organization.

The next time you draw up a club budget, make sure to allow for the purchase of some name tags. It's such a simple thing, but it can bring great benefits to your organization on every level.
