Using a Nortel Phone

The Nortel phone system is the perfect phone for businesses, but large and small. When the phone is connected to the store's network, you will be able to page other individuals, make out of system calls, call different lines and hold calls. Basically, the Nortel Phone system will be able to handle just about anything you would need in a hectic business environment.

When the phone network is set up, each individual office will most likely be given its own phone line, as well as extension number. To call the select office, all you will need to do is dial the specific extension number. When you dial one of the extensions, you will only need to call the three or four digit number (instead of the full telephone number and extension).

With the Nortel Phone system you can call outside of the office as well. To do this you will first need to press the "Call Out" number (this can vary from system to system, although it will typically be either 7, 8 or 9). Once you have pressed the "Call Out" number, you will need to select the country code (1 in the United States), followed by the area code and then the seven digit number.

Just like any other phone, when it rings you pick up the receiver to answer it. If the call is for a different individual in the office you can hold the call and page the individual for whom the call is for. Do this by pressing the "Park" button. This will park the call. You can now put the phone back down on the cradle and not hang up on the individual. The display screen will state what line the call is currently on. Press the "Page All" button to page the individual. From here, your page will be heard over all of the phone speakers on the Nortel Phone system.

If you are at your desk and hear a page for yourself, you can answer this call fairly easily. The individual who pages the call will most likely state what line the call is parked on. Pick up the phone receiver, press the "Intercom" button, followed by the line number. For example, if the individual paging the call says it is online "101," you will press the "Intercom" button, followed by "1", "1" and "1." You will now be able to take and answer the phone call.
