Using the Sony DVDirect® DVD Recorder

I had a boatload of VCR tapes and tapes I had made using my old VHS camcorder that I wanted to find a way to transfer to DVD. I had looked into a service that would do this, but it was cost prohibitive. I started looking online to see if there was another option. It turns out that Sony has such an option, the Sony DVDirect® DVD Recorder.

The Sony DVDirect® DVD Recorder is relatively low priced at an MSRP of $299.99. I was able to get a deal for it online at Amazon.com for $249.99. Fifty bucks is fifty bucks!

The Sony DVDirect® DVD Recorder has some really nice features. You can record directly to DVD from nearly any source. VCR, just about any camcorder, or even in HD quality if you have an AVCHD equipped camcorder. I borrowed one from a friend, and shot some video to test it out. It really works great. In this mode you can record up to 95 minutes of HD.

The Sony DVDirect® DVD Recorder will record 12 hours to a DVD, so if you have a lot of VHS movies you want to transfer over you can get an average of 5 to 6 movies onto one DVD. (Consider that the average movie is 90 minutes to 2 hours, and there you go.)

Recording to the Sony DVDirect® DVD Recorder allows automatic DVD chaptering, at 5 10, or 15 minutes, or whatever you set.

You can hook the Sony DVDirect® DVD Recorder up to your HDTV and use it for a Blu-Ray equivalent DVD player.

I found that the Sony DVDirect® DVD Recorder was really simple to set up and operate. Even my 10 year old daughter was able to follow what I was doing, and could spell me at copying the VHS tapes over.

The Sony DVDirect® DVD Recorder will even create Title Menus for you, and has four menu designs.

I liked that the Sony DVDirect® DVD Recorder has a remote with it, because I am using it for a DVD player in my bedroom. This way I don't have to get up to pause or stop. What can I say; remote controls have made me lazy!

The Sony DVDirect® DVD Recorder does everything it says it will do, and I have no complaints. I would say I am getting my money's worth out if it. After spending years of collecting movies on VHS, now I don't have to replace them all.
