In order to take advantage of this method of downloading such files, you need a BitTorrent client. There are many BitTorrent clients to choose from today, from the bare bones (simply download the files) to full-blown applications that download the BitTorrent files and store and play the media downloaded.
If you are looking for a lightweight, yet feature packed client, uTorrent is the perfect BitTorrent client for you. With a very small file size (around 300 kilobytes), uTorrent is packed with features including, multiple file download, queuing, scheduling, and bandwidth throttling.
uTorrent supports multiple downloading of torrents. Basically, this means that you can go to your favorite torrent sites and download all the files you want either at the same time or placing downloads in a queue, depending on the options you configured during installation.
If you choose to download multiple torrent files, bandwidth may become an issue for you. To address bandwidth concerns, uTorrent can queue files for you depending on your settings. The order of queued downloads can also be changed from within the interface in order to get more important files downloaded first.
Scheduling torrent downloads will also help with bandwidth issues, especially in a network environment. Thankfully, uTorrent has a built-in scheduler that you can configure to download at certain times during the week. With the scheduler, in addition to choosing the days of the week you want to download, you can also select whether you want to download at full speed (utilizing the most bandwidth) or limiting the download and upload speed (you can assign the bandwidth for both uploading and downloading when limiting bandwidth) during the scheduled times.
If you don't want to use the scheduler, you can limit bandwidth usage on a per torrent basis by throttling the bandwidth. This means you can select and specify exactly how much bandwidth you would like to limit the download to. Both download and upload speed can be specified when throttling the bandwidth. This can be helpful when you have multiple torrent files being downloaded or uploaded as you can specify the bandwidth for each active torrent.
uTorrent is one of the leading BitTorrent clients available due to its ease of use and powerful feature set. Once you have a basic understanding of torrents and the uTorrent client, you can join in on the downloading (and sharing) of torrent files across the Internet.
