Using Yard Sales to Find Things to Sell on EBay: Tips to Get You Started

How You Can Find Things to Sell Locally on EBay

Are you interested in selling on eBay? If you are, one of the most common questions asked is "how do I find things to sell?" The good news is that you do have a number of different options. With that said, one option that you will want to closely examine is that of yard sales, also commonly referred to as garage sales.

Before focusing on how you can use yard sales to find things to sell on eBay, it is first important to examine why you should. For starters, yard sales are known for their affordable prices. Some yard sale hosts would accept just about anything to get their unwanted and unused things out of their home. This can work to your advantage, as the less you spend on eBay merchandise, the bigger your profits are likely to be.

It is also important to note that you never know what you will find at yard sales and garage sales. Although you might consider this to be a disadvantage, you should look at it as an amazing opportunity. While your goal may be to find affordably priced children's toys to sell on eBay, you may find low priced clothes that also allow you to make a profit or you may be able to come across a valuable antique.

As for using yard sales to your advantage, some shoppers just jump right in their cars and go. On a good day, you can easily find yard sales with your own set of eyes, but there is a much easier approach. When you are looking to make a profit selling on eBay, you should look at yard sale shopping from the standpoint of a business project, as opposed to a day of fun and games. For that reason, you may first want to pickup a copy of your local newspaper.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday newspapers are often stocked full of area yard sales and garage sales. Many yard sale hosts also summarize in their newspaper listings a few of the items that they have for sale. You will want to visit the yard sales that have items you are looking for, items that you need, or even just those that you want to look over.

In addition to deciding ahead of time which yard sales or garage sales you would like to visit, you can create a map for yourself. This can easily be done with a printed map or a viewable online map. Find each of the yard sales you would like to visit on the map. Which ones are closest to your home or your starting point? Create a list of travel in order of location. This can help to reduce your travel expenses, as well as save you time, as you won't find yourself backtracking to areas that you have already visited.

As an added tip, if you have a close friend or relative who would be willing to provide you with assistance from home, your chances of making a profit tend to increase. If you find an item that you would like to buy, but are unsure about, have your helper at home visit the eBay.com website. They can examine the completed listings for the item in question. This can give you an idea as to whether or not you have a profitable item on your hands.

As you can see, yard sales are a great way to find things to sell on eBay. Although you should have the main goal of finding things to sell on eBay, you can also enjoy yourself a little bit. Even when working from home, like when selling on eBay, a day out of the "office," can do you good.
