You probably think yogurt is something that has been around for 30 or 40 years, but in reality, it has been around for about 4,500 years. It was said that yogurt was a prominent food item in the Middle East, and that it did not make it to the European Countries until the 16th century.
It wasn't until 1919 when a man by the name of Dr. Isaac Carasso came up with the manufacturing process to produce yogurt. Dr. Carasso started a company at that time and named it after his son Daniel or Danone, but in 1942, Daniel moved the company to America and renamed it Dannon.
Use Yogurt As A Hair Conditioner
Make this recipe and use it as a hair conditioner whenever you shampoo. It will leave your hair clean, shining and healthy.
- 1 cup of yogurt
- 1 beaten egg
- 1 whole banana
- 1 lemon (juiced)
- 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil (for dry hair)
- 3 drops of tea tree oil (for oily hair)
Use Yogurt To Lose Weight
Add 3 servings of fat-free yogurt to your diet and it may be possible to loose weight. Studies have shown adults losing at least 61% more of their body fat than just cutting out calories, and they lost at least 22% more weight.
Use Carton As A Freezer Container
If you ever have left-overs that need to go into the freezer, but you don't have a container, then save your yogurt containers and use them to store your food.
Use Yogurt Containers For Beans
You can also use the yogurt containers to store any of your grains or dried beans.
Use Plain Yogurt As A Substitute
Plain yogurt can be a low-fat substitute in any of your recipes that call for sour cream or cream cheese.
Use Yogurt To Make A Feet And Hand Scrub
Try mixing walnuts that have been finely ground into some yogurt, and use this as a feet, hand and elbow scrub to exfoliate the dead skin from these areas. The yogurt will also act as a moisturizer.
Use Yogurt To Make Finger Paint
If you add food color to some of your yogurt, you can make finger paint for your children.
Use On Canker Sores
Try eating at least 2 servings of yogurt everyday until the canker sore goes away.
Use Yogurt Container For Seedlings
Give your seedlings a starting chance. Put them in yogurt containers to get them growing before transplanting. This can be done with flowers, herbs or vegetable seeds. Just make sure you put some holes in the bottom to drain the water, then place the containers on their own lids to catch the water.
Use On Yeast Infection
I know it may sound a little weird, but you can use an eye dropper or basting tool to insert plain yogurt into the vagina. This will clear up your yeast infection.
Use Yogurt For A Facial
Apply a thin layer of yogurt to your face and leave it on for about 20 or 30 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. This method will cleanse your face and tighten your pores.
Use Yogurt For Diarrhea
If you have diarrhea when taking antibiotics, try eating yogurt that has active cultures in it. The Lactobacillus in it will either prevent the diarrhea or cause it not to be so severe.
Use It For Sunburns
Apply a thin layer of yogurt to the sunburned area and leave it on for about 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing it off with very warm water.
Use It On Your Immune System
Eating yogurt with live cultures is good for your immune system because it increases the production of something called gamma interferons. This helps fight some viral infections as well as some allergies.
Some other facts you may want to know about yogurt is that it has 1 ½ times more calcium in it than milk, and it can also be eaten by people that are lactose intolerant, thereby getting the same nutrients you would get from milk.
