Here we are with another sign of our times. Almost 700 United States Post Offices are scheduled for possible closure and the list on the United States Postal Commission site is inaccessible because too many people are trying to use the site to see the USPS Post Office Closure List all at once. For anybody who needs a copy of this list, the Washington Post has it available on their site at: USPS Post Office Closure List
If a simple list of Post Office Closures is enough to make one of our government sites unavailable over too many users, what is going to happen if we have some sort of a real emergency in this country? In my opinion alone, the government is the one entity online that needs to be prepared for the crowds of Americans that might just want to see an online listing that is supposed to be affecting our lives.
Amazingly, I do not see any small town post office closings on the USPS Post Office Closure List tonight. Wyoming, the United State with the least amount of people in it is not represented at all. It appears that the government has decided to consolidate stations that are located in populated areas instead of hurting the people who would need to drive miles if their local P.O. had made the hit list.
Over the next few days, this issue should become a hot debate item. Nobody likes to see downward changes in services that we have become accustomed to. In my opinion, it is far better to place almost 700 United States Post Offices on a USPS Closure list than it is to have the whole snail-mail system collapse. I am in favor of the closures if it will leave the government with enough money to make their Web sites work.

Post a CommentGreat article. I fully expect to see the end of getting mail delivered on Saturday's, sometime in the near future.
What a novel idea, close unproductive offices - But riddle me this - Rabun County Georgia population 16000 in 2000 Census has 8 repeat 8 post offices open. Wylee Georgia post office is in a small trailer and is within sight of Lakemont Georgia post office!! Both are remaining open. Idiots at the Government no less.
So far, we get our mail every day except Sunday but that could change. So interesting about the website crashing. Wow!
This is sad for some small towns.
I guess the recent increase for mailing did not help any more then it has helped in the past.
They raise the cost of postage, they lose customers. They lose customers, they lose money.
Now, if only every other business would just open their eyes to see that cut backs are not always the solution. Improving Customer Service will keep Customers and will improve the volume of Customers; therefore, increase revenue.
They need to stop trying to save money and start trying to earn it.
Talk is that the post office and mail delivery in my town (and nearby towns) will be suspended one day per week to cut costs.
I think rent to post office will be a big cost. For very less populated areas, it is better to run more one man post offices from their home or small business centers.
THEYVE TALKIN ABOUTH THIS FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS NOW IT PROBABLY STILL WONT HAPPEN. BUNCH OF MORONS RUNNIG THE SHOW
Makes sense, I hope they used real logic when making this decision and not, we should just close it because we need to cut expenses.
I had heard something about this...interesting.
