USS Mount Whitney and the "Operation Assured Delivery"

Rosa Hayes
The USS Mount Whitney is a ship that isn't any ordinary ship; it is a ship that holds humanitarian relief supplies such as food, blankets and hygiene products. The USS Mount Whitney sailed out this morning in "Operation Assured Delivery" in efforts to help Georgia after a conflict with Russian forces last month, as reported by EUCOM.

The USS Mount Whitney wasn't the only ship to sail out for "Operation Assured Delivery" to Georgia. The delivery of these supplies came in the amount of 155,000 pounds before USS Mount Whitney had shipped out with their supplies. The "Operation Assured Delivery" has set out three ways of getting supplies to Georgia and these three ways are by using the US Coast Guard, the US Navy, and the US Air Force. The Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was reported to have accused the United States of using the operation listed above as a way to cover up the delivery of military support to Georgia, according to Wikipedia.

For those of you who don't know what the "Operation Assured Delivery" is; it is a relief effort for Georgia that was set after the South Ossetia War in August of 2008. The operation was put in force to deliver food, shelter, hygiene products, and medical supplies to those who need them in Georgia.

The military government does operations like the one that the USS Mount Whitney is taking part of to help those that need the help after wars or natural disasters. Without these efforts we would never be able to build up our country and the population would decrease over time without the support of the military government and those who have decided to take part in the relief efforts.

After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans the military government went in with relief efforts from such forces as the National Guard to help those victims of the hurricane to be able to survive. The relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina helped to save and rescue many lives and to clean up the city of New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina's relief efforts only shows you a glimpse of what the military can do to help those in need of help.

I support the relief efforts and those who live in the United States should also since we never know what disaster might strive and if we are going to be in the middle of it.
