Stop Collecting Entertainment Memorabilia and Make Some Money!

Sarah Toce
It used to be that when you loved a certain movie star or entertainment icon you would collect everything on earth that was released in regards to your crush. Your space was wide, your rent was low and you had all the time in the world to enjoy all of your hard-to-find films and photographs. That was then and this is now. Now, you are older, wiser with your money and have less time to collect things that end up being clutter in your much-smaller household. So, what do you do with all of this "stuff" you collected for so long?

One easy thing you can do is give it all away. That would be easy; You could drop old movies, posters and action figures off at your local Goodwill store or Thrift Store. Easy does not always equal smart, however. Especially when money, time, resources and energy is involved. These are collectibles we are talking about! You can;t just give it all away for nothing. (Well, you could, but it wouldn't be smart in most cases).

So, now that you've decided to not just "give it away", what do you do? Well, one thing that you have on your side is time. You've spent so long collecting things that you might as well hold onto them until a great sale comes along or you have the chance to redistribute and section items off into groups according to price, size, location, value, and so forth. Take it slow, really think about what every item is worth and do a little comparison "window shopping". The internet is great for that. Nowadays, you can look up almost anything!

A great website to start selling your entertainment memorabilia is www.ebay.com. There are millions of different items being sold every single day from people of all walks of life and backgrounds. Usually the price starts low so that the bids are more likely to come in (but if it's a really hard-to-find and rare item, you may want to start the price a bit higher so that you don't lose out on a possible profit). You can set a "Buy It Now" price so that a bidder can buy the item directly from you without participating in the bidding war. You can also post a "Minimum Bid Amount" so that you do not get any less than what you would like for a particular item. You will need to sign up for eBay, but it is free to join. You receive feedback with each sale. Not only can you sell your items on eBay, you can also buy new items! Just be careful to not buy back everything you tried to get rid of or you'll be back at square one! PayPal (www.paypal.com) has partnered with eBay to allow credit card transactions and all you need is a valid linked bank account to be able to utilize this free tool. TIP: Wait for eBay's one cent sale if you have numerous items to list so that you can save on listing fees!

Another great website to sell your items is www.amazon.com. Amazon is an internet market in which you can also find almost anything your heart desires. You have to sign up, but it is free. You can sell new, old, lightly used and even damaged items if it's a very rare find. You state the methods of payment you will accept and post it for a length of time acceptable to you and then wait to see what happens. Chances are, you will sell your entertainment action figures for the same or more than you purchased them for and you won't lose out either way. It's a great option to have if you would rather skip eBay to try something different. Both are fairly comparable in fees, etc.

Regardless of what you do and how you do it, never give an item away for free when you can sell it and make a little money back - especially in this economy.

Happy selling and good luck!
