Mountain View, CA 94043

No matter if you live in Mountain View, or if you commute here, almost all of us have seen the empty building on Central Expressway and Mayfield Avenue. Did you know that this property has been the subject of town meetings and developers dating back to 2004? Did you also know that this piece of land that is shared by two neighboring cities, Palo Alto and Mountain View? (The majority of the acreage is on the Mountain View side.)

Back in 2007 the site was proposed to have new homes and hundreds of condos developed, but the plan fell through.

In October of 2008, it was reported by MountainViewVoice.com and PaloAltoOnline.com that the plans were not going to happen because Toll Brothers backed out of the plan due to financial pressure on multiple issues. Toll Brothers had chosen to re-evaluate the property the next year.

In December of 2008, PaloAltoOnline.com reported that Mountain View City Council had finally approved the plan, but due to the state of the current economy, it could take years to begin or to complete the work.

Present day, October of 2010, the building is still there, but the signage that explained the planned development, is long gone. The building and parking lot still sit dark and empty. The economy is still rebounding from the harsh last few years. Who knows when this project will finally begin?
