Vacation Destinations for Seniors

Bill Hanks
Even though gas and travel expenses are higher, many seniors plan to vacation this year. This article will give ten vacation destinations for Seniors. They are not listed in any particular order. Many of these places, I have visited.

Quiet Destinations
Bayfield, Wisconsin
My wife and I visited here four years ago. We found it to be a beautiful place to visit. It has everything from the Apostle Islands and sculpture sea caves to historic lighthouses. What makes Bayfield nice is the residents. Bayfield has some of the friendliest people we have met. It is a relaxed place to visit for Seniors.

Nashville, Indiana
If you enjoy small shops and Bluegrass music, this is the place for you. There are Christmas shops and art galleries in this small town. It has a music venue for entertainment called the Little Opry that brings in big time names. Although a hilly area, many places can easily be walked to. You can just sit on a deck and enjoy nature, as well.

Popular Destinations
Napa Valley
This is wine country. You can't see everything in this area in one day. However, you can get a feeling of what a great area this is for Seniors. Wine tasting and annual festivals dominate this area throughout the year. You can tour by bus or by your own vehicle. If you decide to visit, plan on five days to a week.

Branson
This area is designed for family and Senior entertainment. It has 50 shows and 12 golf courses. It has many shops and outlet malls. You can also find outdoor activities on the lakes. Branson has long been a great vacation destination for Seniors. Weekdays are best for getting show tickets.

Orlando
Orlando has three major theme parks. It also has some minor ones. It also provides many discounts for family and Seniors for their attractions. Florida climate and the many venues for things to do, rank high on the list of Senior vacation destinations.

Kansas City
Many individuals will ask, "Why Kansas City?" They have five casinos, great shopping, Worlds of Fun amusement and water park and barbecue. Did I say barbecue? Just sampling, the different barbecue is a trip in itself. By the way, make sure you visit the Hallmark Card Museum.

Memphis
There are lots of things for Seniors to do in Memphis. There is Beale Street and Graceland. If you like good food and the Blues, this city has it for you. Beale Street is easy to move around. You can find music during the day and in the evening. the lights at night on Beale Street is very colorful.

Nashville
Music city has everything from great live entertainment to fun amusement parks. Nashville has over 60 live entertainment venues. Before Branson was Nashville. It is the roots of Country music in America. The Grand Ole Opry is the soul of our nation. It is the number one attraction in this city.

Niagra Falls
Located in both Canada and the US, this is still a popular area for Seniors. The Maid of the Mist still draws large crowds each season. The Skylon Tower is not only a find restaurant, but the view of the area is amazing from this height. This is also a place famous for its wineries.

Denver
Many people don't think of Denver as a vacation destination. There is something inviting about the Mile High City. My wife and I have been there three times and we keep going back. Denver has great museums like the Buffalo Bill and the Black American West. They also have amusement parks and outstanding restaurants.

These are just my ten vacation destinations for Seniors. There are many in this great nation.

Nashville, Tennessee is the only city on this I've been. There is more than music related places to go, there are many museums , parks, ghost tours and of course the capitol of Tennessee. If you are into genealogy the state archives is in Nashville.

There are lots of wonderful weekend getaways in Wisconsin. I had occasion many years ago to drive several times through LaCrosse and always wished I could have stayed a few days to explore.

I've been to Branson, Nashville and Denver and I agree they are all nice places to visit, even for seniors. Your Bayfield. WI site sounds interesting though I must confess I have never travelled north beyond the Iowa border.
