Vacation in Florida

Vacationing in Florida was one of the best decisions I have ever made. For years my friends had told me of the endless beaches, warm winter climate and laid back life style. Almost 10 years ago I visited Florida for the first time with really no expectations but to do a little surfing and keep warm for the winter. I started in Jacksonville and worked my way down the coast as many surfers have in the past I am sure. I found plenty of great places to surf and beach around. Florida's coast has a great number of parks along the coast. We choose to travel in a motor home at the time gas was very reasonable. We found many places close to the ocean that were quite reasonable to stay at for a few weeks at a time. I was very impressed by the beaches in Florida. I have been to many different beaches all through California, Hawaii and Washington State. Florida had them all beat, The Florida beaches were for the most part cleaner than many of the beaches else where that I have been in the USA. They have regular beach clean up events and teach their kids about respecting the beaches. Very seldom have I seen trash floating in the water while I was surfing.

In many places Florida commands a high amount of rent for temporary stays. But recently I have seen the rent prices go down. Check in the local newspapers in Florida. Many of them are available on line. Florida is very accustom to snowbirds as they call them and you will usually be treated with respect no matter where you are from. I did not find the transportation system very accommodating away from the major cities. Although you can travel from coastal town to coastal town pretty easily with a bike. If you are sensitive to the sun you might want to consider using some sun screen and wearing a good hat. Take an umbrella to the beach even if you think its cloudy. You will enjoy your self much more. Drink plenty of water and eat regular meals. Beach going can take it out of you even if you are just lounging around. Be-careful when visiting State Parks in Florida because most of them do not allow alcoholic beverages. They are pretty serious about enforcing this law. Depending what type of situation you are looking for, I have learned that a vacation in Florida has it all. From country living to big city night life.
