Vacation Home Bath, Linens and Personal Items

Bathroom Essentials for Your Cabin or Beachfront Property

Jan Peterson
Depending on the amenities in your cabin or vacation home, you will want to keep linens and bath sundries there. But what makes sense and what doesn't?

Stock Linens in Your Vacation Home

Plan to have enough towels and sheets on hand so that you won't have to be doing laundry all the time. If there is not a laundry room in the vacation home, look into using the services of affordable laundry service, if there is one in the area. Either way is preferred to hauling dirty linens back home after a vacation!

Make You Vacation Home Bathroom Feel Like Home

In the bathroom, keep all the same hair products and shower necessities that you have at home, since shampoos, conditioners, soaps and cleaning products have a long shelf life. in the cabinets keep:

-Over the counter pain medicine
-First aid ointment and band-aids
-A toothbrush and toothpaste
-Blow-dryer
-Curling iron or straightener
-Sunscreen

Just think about what you typically need at home, plus what you usually take on vacation, and then stock your get-away retreat with all of it!

On the other hand, things that have a shorter shelf life, such as makeup or prescriptions might be wasted if left in a vacation home that isn't visited often enough. Common sense should be used if in doubt. If the plan is to visit 2-3 times a month, bring everything. If the visits will only be during the summer or winter, plan to bring those items with you.

Other Personal Items

One of the wonderful things about owning a vacation retreat is that you don't have to pack up everything before and after a vacation. If your vacation home is a cabin in the mountains, you might want to leave a heavy coat, some sweaters and snow boots. If it's a beach home, maybe a bathing suit, flip flops, and extra pair of sunglasses and some tank tops and shorts should be stored at your beach home. Keep the clothes that make sense at your vacation home, especially if you won't miss them at your primary home. Oh! And what screams vacation "resort" more than having a a plush terry robe and slippers hanging in a vacation home bedroom closet?

Keeping a supply of linens and bath sundries in your vacation home's bathroom will make your get-away life simpler. Storing a few relevent pieces of clothing in the home's closet will make packing for each return trip a snap, and ensure you won't get caught short when you open your suitcase to realize you've forgotten that obvious item! Set up your vacation home upgront, and then just enjoy the escape once you open that front door!
