Vacation with the Kids

Every Family Should Take a Road Trip

Ashlee
As a soon to be mother I know that family time and family trips are important in your child's life. I remember almost all of the fun trips that my parents took me on and we have such a great bond because of the experiences we have had together.

We have gone on several cruises to different locations and those have been really fun, but when speaking to my mother we came to the conclusion that the trip where we all spent time together and bonded the most was our road trip across the United States.

Before we left southern California we planned out our trip. We first picked the places that we really needed to go to such as my sister's skating competition in Nebraska, and visiting family in Ohio. We then found different landmarks that the family would enjoy visiting and historic places we were interested in seeing. We got to experience so many things, together.

We went to the top of the St. Louis Arch

We went through the building where the Oklahoma bombing occurred

We went deep underground on a tour through dark caverns

We saw the world's largest dream catcher in New Mexico

We stood above a huge crater that was made by a meteor

And many, many other stops along the way.

My siblings and I did get tired of each other but we still had fun making up things to do along the trip. We also had fun keeping track of the states we would pass through while driving.

By taking many pictures and making a scrapbook of our trip we are able to see and read about all the things we experienced. When we look through the book we read what we wrote about the time we had together and the unique memories we had along the way. I recommend every family take a road trip together.

My mother did remind me that by being in a car for so long my siblings and I did get tired of each other and we got on each others nerves a lot. But even if the kids will drive you crazy with long periods of time together, it will be worth it in the end.
