R. M. Dubuc
Ever wonder what to do with all those vacation photos, trinkets, or one-of-a-kind souvenirs from vacation travels? One of the most unique ways to preserve vacation and travel memories is to capture the moments and memories as part of your home wall decor. Creating a vacation memories wall in the home is easy to start, and new photos and mementos can be added with each travel adventure. Many people find that vacation photos are placed in scrapbooks or photo albums and set aside. The vacation memories wall can provide a daily reminder of good times shared with family and friends, when it is included as part of the home decor.

Suggested Supplies

The best part about creating a vacation memory wall in the home, is the possibilities are endless for how to include it as part of your home decor. Supplies will vary, based on which type of vacation memory wall design best suits your home decorating needs, but gathering some of the basic supplies, or purchasing additional accessories or items to enhance your vacation memory wall is the first step. A few of the suggested supplies to get on hand before starting include:

--travel/vacation photographs
--vacation mementos, souvenirs, small trinkets
--several photo frames (various designs and sizes)
--picture frame hooks
--small nails or poster adhesive/sticky tac
--postcards
--shelving or small curio cabinets

Where to Create a Vacation Memory Wall

Choosing the right place to create a vacation memory wall will depend on what type of project you want to embark on. Small spaces on the wall may be perfect for starting a small collage of framed vacation , accented by a few souvenirs and a small shelf. Larger areas in living rooms, hallways, entry ways, or home offices can be ideal for larger vacation memories wall projects. Poster sized framed photos generally look better in areas where the wall space is larger and not decorated with unrelated home decor.

Vacation Photo Ideas

Vacation photographs can be the highlight of any vacation memory wall. Travel memories often come to life when they are preserved and framed on the wall of your home, allowing both family members and guests to view special vacation memories. Photographs may be enlarged to fit in larger frames, or displayed in a number of smaller groups of frames. Not all picture frames have to necessarily be uniform, and sometimes the more unique the frames are, the more interesting the vacation memories wall photo display will be. Choose a variety of photos or a single batch of a specific vacation to begin. Drawing a draft on paper of the general wall display design you may want to use can be helpful before attempting to hang the frames. Adding small mementos among the photo wall display will add to the creativity of the vacation memories wall project.

Souvenirs

Some of the best souvenir ideas for including on any vacation memories wall are those which remind you of a certain vacation memory or place. Souvenirs can be used to accent any vacation memories wall. Small shelves are excellent ways to display knick-knack types of souvenirs, while other souvenirs might be able to hang freely with a little poster adhesive or small nail. Postcards from travels can be matted and framed in small photo frames and placed on the wall among other photos and mementos.

Personalizing Your Vacation Memories Wall

The key to making a vacation memories wall is to personalize it with favorite vacation or travel memories. Creative ideas are endless for this project, and once you have some basic supplies and decide where to begin a vacation memories wall, the rest of the project can be fun for the whole family. Adding small touches to personalize a vacation memories wall will make all the difference and houseguests will marvel at your unique home decorating ideas.

Excellent article. You've put up so many great ideas lately...are you remodeling this summer?

I have vacation pictures lining my hallway. It's a great idea. Even on the most depressed days, there's always at least one picture that makes me smile!
