Vacation Tips: Small Budget, Big Fun

Many Americans will not be able to take a "real" vacation this year. Costs are soaring and many find themselves either without jobs or unable to take time off to rest and relax. The truth is, we all need to get away once in awhile. Regardless of your budget there are options available. So read on and find out how to have a great vacation no matter how small your budget.

One of the most overlooked vacation spots is generally right in your backyard. Local attractions such as conservation and wildlife parks are close to home, family friendly, and won't put nearly the dent in your wallet as going to Disney World. You can generally expect to find some type of camping grounds, ranging from a place to pitch a tent to cabins and rv parks. Various activities are provided such as tours, workshops, and gift shops. For the introvert, one can just sit back and enjoy being in nature.

My personal favorite are the local amusement parks. If you live within driving distance, say one and a half or two hours away from a theme park go down and check it out. Renting a hotel room nearby for a day or two can turn into a real adventure and give you a chance to really explore an area that you never took the time to before. These have been some of the most memorable experiences for my family and I.

There is yet another alternative to the typical family vacation. A good old fashioned camping trip. The first time we went I thought that it was a ridiculous idea but it turned out to be a lot of fun. I didn't have to wait on my bags or endure noisy strangers. It really was time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Best of all, I felt like I could just let my hair down and relax. Isn't that what a vacation is supposed to be about anyway? If your bank account is looking a little pinched, leave the cell phone, lap top, and the other multimedia devices and head to the great outdoors. You will be happy that you did.

There is always something out there for everyone. If you feel as though you absolutely must go through the motions of an all out vacation there are still some ways to cut costs without sacrificing quality. Making and paying for reservations early can save you as much as twenty percent. The time that you visit a particular area is equally as crucial. During the summer, holidays, and spring break you can expect to pay more. This is considered "peak times" and you will pay a higher price than if you say, visited in the fall. If necessary, you can turn that 5 to 7 day vacation into a 3 to 4 day getaway. Just remember, no matter your destination or length of stay the goal is to enjoy yourself and have some time off.

These are good suggestions. I enjoy going to theme parks and national parks.
