Vacation While at Work and Keep Your Job

Magena Fawn
Frequently people work during vacations, but you might get a pink-slip if you slack off on the job. So how does a person take a vacation while at work and still keep their employer satisfied? I once saw a movie where a taxi driver had a postcard of a tropical beach on his sun-visor. He would imagine himself there while he waited for the next fare.

Have you ever heard someone say they could "do that in their sleep"? Their job has become so routine that they no longer have to put a lot of focus on their tasks. In their mind they can think on other things while they work.

You may have tasks that require more of your attention. We certainly don't want a brain surgeon operating on us while they are somewhere else in their mind. Those rote activities you do everyday that do not require much focus will be the open door to slip off into a world of limitless fantasy.

Next time you find yourself thinking about what you're going to make for dinner when you get home, you can imagine yourself taking a vacation in another country. Walking into a park with a picnic basket on your arm and no obligations pressing on your mind. Wait, did you hear the birds chirping and can you feel the sun on your face? I hear the sounds of a brook nearby as the water laughingly falls over stones. Stop a minute and place yourself on that cobblestone path. Do you see the sandals on your feet? Are you alone or with someone? I am now Luna and I am walking with my partner Sola hand in hand. We retrieve a blanket and hear it crack as we whip it open and lay it softly on the fresh spring grass. Doesn't the grass smell sweet?

We sit down together and begin taking the food out of the basket. Here is where you can imagine what you want to eat for dinner. It is okay if you don't eat picnic food, its really fine. No reason to feel any pressure. It's your vacation and no one is judging it. Begin by imagining something fresh and cool on your tongue for starters. I am enjoying a ripe slice of cantaloupe. I can smell its sweetness now. It is so juicy and delicious! I feed some to my partner as he eats from my hand. We kiss and share the taste with each other.

Next we have some crusty toasted bread with a spreadable cheese topped with some olive tapenade. You get the idea. We enjoy the contrast of the sweet cantaloupe and the salty olives. We savor every beautiful thing and then get lost in each others eyes.

Oh no! The phone rings and you are pulled back into the "real" world. That's okay, you can go back to your vacation once you take care of your customer. My calendar of Hawaiian beaches may just help me find a new vacation spot in my mind.

Thank you for the wonderful escape from the daily grind. You paint such a vivid picture and I swear I could taste the cantaloupe and smell the olive tapenade! These kinds of escapes are important for my sanity, and I practice them often.

A vacation sounds heavenly. I usually take my vacation at the garden centers.
