Dive into the nightlife at a few of the many clubs and bars located in Rio de Janeiro. A few good choices have been the Lord Jim for it's live music. Also a hot spot is the Shennanigan's Irish Pub, mostly because it is located not far from the Lord Jim. So bar hopping is easy with these two considering they are a short distance from each other. And my absolute favorite was the Emporio, full of life, excitement, and dancing all night long. So much fun to be had at this particular nightclub, popular enough that a lot of people attending were dancing in the streets, all because the club itself was so full.
Enjoy the beaches when you can, you will regret it if you come all this way to Brazil and yet you are not able to visit the wonderful surf and sand. Usually packed full of people, makes it kind of hard not to chat up the locals, or get to know other tourists. Especially Ipanema Beach, this is a great place to spend any afternoon. In the sun, hit the waves, and get friendly with another culture.
Eating out is an experience all it's own in Brazil. The restaurant called Delirio Tropical was top on my list, because of the healthier options of food they offered, which included salads and other amazing dishes. And conveniently located not far from Ipanema Beach. I barely ate anywhere else, but another good place was the The Bakers whose menu consisted of a variety of pastries and deserts.
There are plenty of hotels located throughout Rio de Janeiro, but I only have a review for one. That would be The Mango Tree. If ever I go back to this side of Brazil, this would be where I would stay again. It was inexpensive, very clean, service was wonderful, and the location was perfect. I was in an area right in the middle of bars, clubs, restaurants, markets, and not far at all from the beach.
Although I wasn't able to visit the popular Carnival, or see any museums, art exhibits, or historical places, I still had the best time. It was a short vacation, but I did see plenty of life, meet a lot of people, and had huge amounts of fun. I highly recommend Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, I just hope I get the chance to go again one day and this time longer than just a few short days.
