Vacationing in South Brevard Florida? Here Are Three Family Fishing Spots to Consider

Eric Wynn
Fishing is a great way to spend the day with the family. However, not all spots are family suited. When the fish are not biting, you need to have a backup plan. Sometimes, you just need other things to do when the family gets bored with fishing. Here are three family spots that I highly recommend for fishing and allow the family to do other things if fishing is slow.

1. Melbourne Beach Pier. Located on Riverside Drive and the corner of Ocean Ave, Melbourne Beach Florida. This is probably one of my favorite spots. This is an excellent pier, with a covered area and lights for night fishing. Located in the very sleepy town of Melbourne Beach, not everyone knows about this spot and it is often uncrowded. The pier was originally built in 1889 as part of a railroad crossing, and a section of the track has been left for historical display purposes. The pier is part of the Ryckman Park, which is a lovely park, very shaded by the tree canopy, with a playground and bathrooms. If you bored with fishing, you can drive along Ocean Ave, and visit its eclectic collection of shops and eateries.

2. Riverside Park and pier. Located behind the Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Riverside Drive in Indialantic, this is another wonderful pier with a covered area and lights. There are no amenities in this area, and the closes thing for a bathroom is the 7-11, which is one block away on 5th Ave. There are a couple of picnic tables along the river, and the park is very well shaded. There is no playground here. 5th Ave has many shops and eateries if you should need something or get bored with fishing.

3. Eau Gallie Pier. Located behind the Eau Gallie Library on Pineapple Ave at the corner of Eau Gallie Blvd, this is where I fished as a kid on many occasions. The pier has been built on and expanded over the years and now includes a covered area and lights. There are no bathrooms here, if you need to use the bathroom you need to use the library or the Squid Lips Restaurant bathroom. The library has a nice park for the kids if they get bored, or they can peruse the library.
