Vacationing in the Windy City, Always Pleasant

Vacationing in the Windy City, Always Pleasant

After living in Chicago for a year of life and later visiting, I realized the beauty of the city landscape. Chicago, the business and cultural Midwest capital, is a diamond in the rough of the otherwise cornfields of this distinct area. Now living in the shadow of the New York skyline, I have discovered that there is something different about a Midwest metropolis. The city, much like others, is divided into very distinct neighborhoods, whether it's ethnic breakdowns or simply lifestyle variations, Chicago has something for everyone. The city offers opportunities to travel throughout by taxi as well as Chicago Transit Authority bus and "el" train lines. An abundant of museums from the north to the south including the Modern Art Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Field Museum and Museum of Science & Industry offers different experience for any traveler.

I must mention that no matter what time of year it is, there are exciting things to involve yourself in within the city. Having lived in 'The Windy City,' I had accommodations with a room, however if you are visiting, I highly advise staying at the Palmer Hilton Hotel (entrances on Wabash Ave and State St). High-class shopping is available on State Street just outside the hotel doors and Water Tower Place (located at 835 N. Michigan Ave) is only a short distance away as well. Most of the art museums mentioned are a short walk from Palmer Hilton Hotel as well. Depending on your taste buds, a variety of restaurants are available; each neighborhood has a distinct style. One of my personal favorites on Michigan Ave (right next to Water Tower) is the Cheesecake Factory, high class dining for a reasonable price. Not to mention, the best cheesecake in the country, guaranteed!

With my last trip a few weeks ago, I have discovered that even after living in Chicago for a year, it is impossible to experience all it has to offer. From comedy clubs to concerts, plays and art exhibits, whatever you enjoy is available to be experienced in Chi Town. Take time to discover something different with each visit, try out a new restaurant or simply stroll through a new neighborhood. Chicago is much more than a vacation, but a cultural experience that is sure to change your travel insight forever.
