Vacations Can Be Hilarious

Part of the thrill of vacations is the unplanned situations that arise. Hilarious additions to a vacation however, make for lifetime memories and stories that can be shared with others.

Over the years my family has experienced some pretty hilarious adventures while on vacation. I would like to share two of those adventures with you.

Our first family trip took place in 11985 when my children were 8 and 5 years old. This trip was a Disneyland vacation taken in a borrowed motor home. Having borrowed this motor home from my father we felt that safety was a priority.

With great care we drove down the coast highway making a stop in San Francisco. We were a bit nervous due to the large size of the motor home. However, we found a great parking space right on the street. Pulling up to the curb as close as we possibly could we parked and left the motor home to go spend the day at the San Francisco Warf.

That evening we returned to continue our road trip south and climbed aboard the motor home. As my husband pulled away from the curb we heard a terrible crunching noise. Looking behind us through the back window the children and I noticed a crowd of people standing in the middle of the street. The crowd was jumping up and down and it even appeared that some of them were laughing. We stopped the motor home and backed up to the crowd. When we stepped out of the motor home we saw right in the middle of the street a semi-large tree branch and attached to the branch appeared to be the awning off the side of the motor home.

Feeling extremely embarrassed my husband picked up the awning and placed it in the floor of the motor home where it rode the entire trip. I had to stand on top of the awning to cook and we stepped across it to get to the rest room. However, looking back on this adventure makes us laugh today.

Another one of our adventures took place with my daughter and granddaughter on another trip to Disneyland. This adventure was one we feel is the most hilarious of our trips. On the way to Disneyland we stopped at a Motel 6 for the night. Once in our room before we were in bed for the night my husband and I overheard our granddaughter and daughter talking in the other room. Our 5 year-old granddaughter said to her mom, "I can count by tens". Our daughter responded with surprise in her voice and said, "That is just wonderful, can you count for me now?" Sydney our granddaughter stated, "Yep, ten, ten, ten." IT was difficult for us to keep the laughter down so that she could not hear us.

The following morning as we were searching for a restaurant for breakfast, we were driving down the highway and heard this little voice from the back seat say, "You just passed McDonalds." Again we had to hold back the laughter and to this day we find ourselves laughing each and every time we discuss that trip. Memories like these are what keep us young at heart.

Our family has a lot of sayings that originate from something that was said on a family vacation.
