What is Vaginal Flatulence?
Vaginal flatulence is caused by air getting trapped in the vagina. According to Health Services at Colombia University, this generally occurs during arousal, which causes the uterus to lengthen and creates more room for air.
Air may also become trapped during penetration or exercise, especially if it involves a lot of stretching. Vaginal flatulence occurs when the air is released from the vaginal. In some cases, this may be during or immediately following sexual intercourse.
Is Vaginal Flatulence Gas?
Passing gas is not the same thing as vaginal flatulence. Only air is released through the vagina when this problem occurs. Although vaginal flatulence makes a noise which is similar to that of anal flatulence, it will not release an odor because no gas is emitted. Women with a serious condition called rectovaginal fistula may experience vaginal flatulence that is accompanied by a feces odor, however.
Can Vaginal Flatulence be Prevented?
Ultimately, there is no way to know when vaginal flatulence is going to occur, which makes it very difficult to prevent. That said, it is important to keep in mind that the problem tends to be more common with certain sexual positions. Many women notice that vaginal flatulence tends to occur during doggie-style position. Switching positions frequently during sexual intercourse can also increase the risk of the problem occurring.
It is important to keep in mind that every woman's body is different and, while some may experience vaginal flatulence often, others may never notice it at all. If you are experiencing the problem on a regular basis or if you notice a feces odor, it is important to talk to your doctor to rule out the possibility of any serious health conditions. However, it is important to note that vaginal flatulence is generally normal and nothing to worry about.
