Vail, Colorado: Best Ski Town Around

William Browning
Vail, Colorado, is known for one thing in most people's minds: skiing. But Vail is so much more all year round. Skiing is generally from November until March but when the snow is melted Vail turns into a small town with a farmer's market, summer hiking, and full of natural wonder.

Just off I-70 in the middle of the White River National Forest, this little town of just 4,768 inhabitants is in the middle of Colorado's ski country and relies mostly on tourism and adventure seekers for Vail's income.

Skiing is about to be in full swing and there are plentiful options for your great skiing adventure. My best advice is to plan your Vail skiing vacation in as much advance as possible whether it's a family gathering or honeymoon. Plenty of resorts and restaurants are there but reservations fill up fast. Vail is perfect for a vacation in the winter in the United States to get away from it all and still stay close to home and relax.

Vail is the king of skiing towns because they have their own ski and snowboard school. A variety of packages exist for beginning skiers, children, and more advanced skiers on higher slopes. Lessons go for up to three days, so they are serious about their ski school.

Vail has just about any kind of food you can think of whether you are in the mood for a quick diner meal or five luxury courses. Over 75 restaurants, every taste is available from pizza, simple burgers, French, Italian, and fusion cuisine.

Your lodging options are replete with packages. Chain lodging from Marriott and Holiday Inn mix with resorts, spas, and cabins. Lion Square Lodge has everything and the easiest way to get there is to ski. From one bedroom up to five bedrooms this lodge at the base of Vail Mountain is a stone's throw from the gondola to the top of the mountain.

Whatever you decide to do in Vail, they have just about everything including a Wal Mart, McDonald's, a hospital, and more. Vail is the perfect small town for all your skiing resort needs that doesn't act like a small town while you stay there.Vail, Colorado, will be crowded every skiing season so you can even plan a vacation during the summer and see the beautiful scenery. Most of the resorts and restaurants may not be open but the scenery will be the same without the snow.
